CASTEX UNDERSTANDS

By Pete Moore On July 12th, 2020

The new French Prime Minister, Jean Castex, actually sounds like he can think.  He says that in the event of a second wave France will not lock down again.

My aim is to prepare France for a possible second wave while preserving our daily life, our economic and social life,” new Prime Minister Jean Castex said in an interview on RTL television.

“But we’re not going to impose a lockdown like the one we did last March, because we’ve learned… that the economic and human consequences from a total lockdown are disastrous,” he said.

Indeed. The hidden physical and mental costs, the suicides and domestic abuse are horrendous. We will be learning about them for years to come.

  1. F the French……

  2. Nice to see Patrick hasn’t lost his tradition respect for the French. 🙂

  3. never

  4. What is your problem with the French, PaTroll? I’ve never understood it. It can’t simply be because of WWII, because someone (Noel, I believe) demonstrated how bravely many of them continued to fight after the surrender. So what is it? Is it because they are more cultured, better educated, have a better standard of life etc than you?

  5. I don’t think Patrick really has a problem with the French. His “F the French” phrase started at the time they refused to support the invasion of Iraq but it’s now just become a long standing ATW joke. I don’t believe he has a real loathing of them.

  6. seimi i think that when the french call the iraq war out for what it was, a phoney war based on false pretences, the gung-ho brigade went berserk, they changed french fries to freedom fries
USA war cost 2.4 trillion dollars, 4,424 total deaths (including both killed in action and non-hostile) and 31,952 wounded in action.
They hit the wrong country, saddam has no connection to al-quaidi, but whereas you might expect humility and a recognition the French were on the money instead in bat-shit crazy world they’re still resented ..

  7. I think it stems from when the French spoke out against the Iraq War and became ‘cheese eating surrender monkies’ but as Colm says, I don’t think there’s any real animosity there.

  8. To be fair cheese-eating surrender monkeys predates the Iraq War by nearly a decade.

  9. hope so guys , imagine a world without french kissing 😉

  10. FFS Seamus, there’s no need to be so literal in absolutely everything.

I know that cheese eating surrender monkies is from the Simpsons and was being metaphorical.

  11. Ok, calm the fuck down.

  12. I’m perfectly calm.

  13. The French have always understood the Arab Mind much better than the Brits or Yanks, and some still want to argue the opposite.
Pat you quite enjoy being bitch-slapped about it too 😉

  14. Blimey. Patrick posts three little words and a Tangled War breaks out 😉

  15. well colm I thought it might have been the cajuns who had stole his hamster as a kid;
which led me to watching a recipe by Gordon Ramsay on how to make The Ultimate Cajun Breakfast Sandwich. I am now wiser than i was 10 mins ago .. yippee

If evolution is true , can devolution also be true 😉

  17. It wasn’t really a serious question when I asked it, as I know the animosity goes back to the ‘Freedom Fries’ and others assorted American nonsense era, but I just wanted him to spell it out.
There’s no need for you guys to crack up at each other 🙂

    Just chill 🙂

  18. PaTroll – sent you an e-mail 🙂

  19. You should have sent it to him in French 😉

  20. Troll,
    je t’ai envoyé un e-mail
    🙂

  21. Et le chat et sur le table 🙂

  22. A certain element of American society will never forgive the French for being correct on the Iraq war.

They desperately tried to warn us not to do it, They said that we would be unleashing forces that we did not understand, And they were entirely correct.

A good friend tells you advice that you need to hear. In 2002, the French were very good friends to the United States.

  23. kurt,

hope so guys , imagine a world without french kissing

Indeed. We’d be left with a Dutch oven and a Cleveland steamer.

  27. And Patrick is about the last person in America who thinks of the Iraq war was a good idea

Even his president loudly proclaims that it was a huge unbelievable mistake

  28. Bloody hell. I’m surprised my pigion French is still good enough to mostly understand what you wrote there. I’ve forgotten the French for stamp.

The original article was published in the Swiss magazine Weltwoche (World Week) on June 10th. The author, Beda M Stadler is the former director of the Institute for Immunology at the University of Bern, a biologist and professor emeritus. Stadler is an important medical professional in Switzerland, he also likes to use provoking language, which should not deter you from the extremely important points he makes.

    What now?

The virus is gone for now. It will probably come back in winter, but it won’t be a second wave, but just a cold. Those young and healthy people who currently walk around with a mask on their faces would be better off wearing a helmet instead, because the risk of something falling on their head is greater than that of getting a serious case of Covid-19.

If we observe a significant rise in infections in 14 days [after the Swiss relaxed the lockdown], we’d at least know that one of the measures was useful. Other than that I recommend reading John P A Ioannidis’ latest work in which he describes the global situation based on data on May 1st 2020: People below 65 years old make up only 0.6 to 2.6 % of all fatal Covid cases. To get on top of the pandemic, we need a strategy merely concentrating on the protection of at-risk people over 65. If that’s the opinion of a top expert, a second lockdown is simply a no-go.

The masterson mendacity-machine stated that John P A Ioannidis is a minor academic at a minor institution (Stanford) yet……

A study by John P A Ioannidis of Stanford University — according to the Einstein Foundation in Berlin one of the world’s ten most cited scientists — showed that immunity against Sars-Cov-2, measured in the form of antibodies, is much higher than previously thought. Ioannidis is certainly not a conspiracy theorist who just wants to swim against the stream; nontheless he is now being criticised, because the antibody tests used were not extremely precise. With that, his critics admit that they do not have such tests yet. And aside, John P A Ioannidis is such a scientific heavy-weight that all German virologists combined are a light-weight in comparison.

kurt – see the two graphs in the middle – one shows ‘number of cases’, and is rising whilst the other shows ‘number of deaths’ and is falling. This means that the mortality rate, whilst already lower than flu, is now dropping in real-time, below that for a common cold. Corona viruses are in the spectrum of the common cold so the mortality rate should be no surprise.

We’ve all had it, without symptoms – and nobody’s dying. It’s a hoax, and you’ve been hoaxed – willingly, compliantly, without any single thought of your own to disturb the quiet of what passes for your mind

undeveloped nations like India,Brazil,USA are having a tougher time, their leaders keep arguing with the science, and of course India is very poor too.

  46. whats interesting is countries who have demonstrated “strength through endurance” , which is having to take unpopular decisions, and see the damn thing through to an acceptable level ( R <1) have fared well.
The so-called "strong" leaders aka nationalists have performed very poorly . so you have to ask what is a strong leader. The answers are uncomfortable for those that have photos of Putin topless on their bedroom walls. Some of us always knew in a crisis they'd be weak .

  47. Stromg leaders are not those who seek populism or rule through gimmicks and twitter (Johnson and Trump) or who think the ‘macho’ image of themselves and their country is all that matters (Bolsonaro,Putin and Trump again). It is those who demonstrate daily quiet determination , who govern seriously and decide and stick to a policy (Ardern in NZ, Sturgeon in Scotland) that really demonstrate “strength through endurance”.

Those leaders aso have something else in common

  49. Girls can dance! Girls can design Spitfires, and girls can defeat Coronavirus. ATW is getting an education in erasing Toxic masculinity 🙂

  50. haha its a gammons nightmare, but the facts are out there . 1950’s thrownbacks really struggle with the reality of the success of women in power; they. still seeking to define masculinity feminity on their own narrow old fashioned bigoted terms.

fascists like order and discipline and hate individuality, they can’t cope at all with difference; be that skin colour, hair-colour/ hairstyles, tattoo’s .
They want short back and sides, uniforms, marches, military displays then they feel safe, anything else makes them want to hide, or lie down or vomit .. they actually have no stomach , which is the definition of weakness, not strength !

  51. yes corona would have never Happen if Hillary was President……..

As for the Chicom Flu….. no it’s not the common cold, but it’s not a plague either.

It’s a new version of SARS, it’s deathrate is no hire than a bad regular flu, it hasn’t caught up yet with the deaths from the original Hong Kong Flu. That hit in 68-69.

You can’t hide from germs, bacteria, and viruses it’s impossible unless you wear a space suit. You are going to be exposed.

99% of people exposed won’t get worse than a bad cold. Those are the facts.

  52. Kurt

You live in a world of cliches

I don’t know if you have ever heard of Mrs. Thatcher. Look her up. She was a strong leader who enjoyed fairly universal support from conservative British males that you have such disdain for

Also, Golda Meir. She got support from those who you would think of as right.

    Etc

  53. You still don’t know what it is.

    It isn’t a flu.

  54. It hasn’t caught up yet with the deaths from the original Hong Kong Flu. That hit in 68-69.

We did not have lockdowns in the US and rest of world in 68-69 either. Bad comparison

  55. patrick, corona is killing 7% , so that makes 93% recover ..

phantom conservative british males are fine, enough of them esp in gov’t move with the times, read papers and accept the mixed make-up of the modern day state
its always a tiny minority who don’t and they’re my target.
are you taking on Harri’s caseload for him pro-bono ?

    do you think you’re a gammon ?

  56. No Phantom it is a Flu….. you spaz out like a Flu is just a minor cold.

In a good year the FLU kills 60,000, in a bad year it kills around 100,000 and those are just the numbers of the common 7 versions of common flu and they kill at that rate even though we have vaccines.

What would you like a new category? How about PANIC? We will start a new category any germ, bacteria, or virus that can be used to evoke panic will by politicians and the press. We can call them Spaz Epidemics.

SARS, Hunta, Ebola, Mrsa, from now on when one rears it’s head we’ll call Spazidemics.

  57. Yes corona would have never Happen if Hillary was President……..

Pat, no one has said that nor suggested such a thing. There’s no need to attempt hyperbole in order to deflect from the dismissals of Covid from your guy in the WH.

    b) 4 = mostly
    c) 3 = sometimes
    d) 2 = rarely
    e) 1 = Never

and you add up the scores , over 10 questions

    higher end ( 35 and over ) = Gammon
lower end = not Gammon personality

  59. Paul Kurt and Colm were just discussing how countries with women leaders have fared the best, the comment was in response to that….. pay attention.

  60. The NZ PM has exercised good leadership on the virus.

Trump has bollixed it up completely.

    That’s the point.

Just about all the western countries, excepting the UK and Italy, have handled it way better.

  61. I have paid attention Pat. Hilary was never leader of the US, no one ever suggested such a thing & your guy’s indecisiveness & bumbling was disastrous, unlike those female leaders mentioned.

  62. Patrick

Why don’t the scientists call it a flu

Is it a ((( conspiracy ))) like you ally on this matter thinks that it is?

    Is it a controlled demolition?

  63. Trump didn’t bollox anything. He has done everything that could be done, and was called racist for it by your candidate.

NYC was given every resource, but the Democrats that run the city and the state killed thousands by not using the assets they we’re given.

  64. Hillary Clinton would clearly have done better on the virus

For starters, she would have used the pandemic playbook that was created during the Obama administration, a document that the Trumpers never bothered to look at, and whose existence they denied for a time.

  65. Phantom the Spanish Flu killed 50-100 Million people….. I guess that wasn’t a Flu either.

  66. We know that flus are flus

  67. A flu isn’t determined by how many or how few people it kills. A flue is caused by the influenza virus. Are you saying coronavirus is an influenza virus? Are you really going to be that stupid?

  68. This is the continued hatred of knowledge and science that is a the heart of the Trumper movement.

The president has referred to it as a flu often himself.

You never hear Fauci or Osterholm call it that.

  69. really categorize them…… Influenza (flu) A disease caused by virus infecting the respiratory tract.

What is Covid 19 ? A variant of SARS. SARS an infectious disease with symptoms including fever and cough and in some cases progressing to pneumonia and respiratory failure.

Gee those definitions sound the same to me.

  70. Pay attention to what guys like Osterholm says on this, turn off Fox News.

Then you might begin to see what it is.

  71. Nobody here has any qualifications form any educated opinion on what type virus this is.

Especially not Patrick’n’Allan, the Bobbsey Twins on this one.

Listen to Osterholm and Fauci and other scientists. They know stuff.

  72. Trump didn’t bollox anything. He has done everything that could be done.

Oh don’t be absolutely disingenuous. It’s only a flu, it’ll be over in a month / when the hotter weather comes in / I’m not wearing a mask, injecting disinfectant may help, etc etc.

The US would almost certainly have weathered the pandemic better if the president had been picked at random out of a hat

And was called racist for it by your candidate

    I don’t have a candidate, I’m nor an American.

  73. Nobody here has any qualifications form any educated opinion on what type virus this is.

Especially not Patrick’n’Allan, the Bobbsey Twins on this one.

Listen to Osterholm and Fauci and other scientists. They know stuff.

The Virus is Covid we know exactly what it is, it’s a version of SARS look it up you ass….

As for Fauci do you want this list of his contradictions? Like there is no danger to the US from this virus, or you don’t need to wear a mask, and over a dozen other things he said in February and March.

  74. I was talking to Phantom Paul, his candidate is Biden…. pay attention.

  75. He has changed what he has said as we learned much more about the virus.

You are way out of your depth on this. Stop trying to be a epidemiologist.

Again, no one here is remotely qualified to give opinions on this.

But scientists in the field are qualified and should be listened to.

  76. I was paying attention Pat. Your post was two minutes after mine and I thought it was referring to my ‘indecisiveness & bumbling was disastrous’

    Regardless, my:

It’s only a flu, it’ll be over in a month / when the hotter weather comes in, I’m not wearing a mask, injecting disinfectant may help, etc etc.

The US would almost certainly have weathered the pandemic better if the president had been picked at random out of a hat

    Still stands.

  77. https://www.niaid.nih.gov/diseases-conditions/covid-19

    Winning.

  79. No you’re out of your depth.

Did you know Fauci gave grants of Taxpayer Money to Study Covid at the Chinese lab where this started?

The only place this virus has devastated in the US is NYC. The city that’s run by a communist mayor and an idiot governor. The incompetence of NY killed those people, just as the incompetence of NY has caused a 300% increase in violence crime.

Last night 4 more people were shot, including a one year old child that died.

  80. this is the definitive set of stupid comments by Trunk on coronavirus as we follow the time-line: you literally cannot get more stoopid
in contrast Fauci has disagreed with Trunk 10 times and that’s on record

“I can’t remember anything quite like the White House attack on Dr. Anthony Fauci. As U.S. infection rates soar, trying to make a scapegoat of the most admired public servant in America isn’t going to work” And it’s plain dishonest. Nick Burns
Harvard Kennedy School Professor, former American Diplomat

  81. And scientists don’t say what you say on any of this

Only Sean Hannity and Fox say what you say

  82. pat you’re a great guy in many ways,
on my gammon counter 1-50 you’d score lower than many lefties on this site
which is a good thing, you’re not interested in division as regards colour, creed, sexuality and so forth .. But I’m afraid you got the stoopid gene.
What you’re arguing today re corona pro-Trunk and anti-Fauci is just plain stoopid
there’s no other word for it I’m afraid

what a pity God didn’t give you the full deck mate 🙁

  83. “really categorize them”

It is really simple. The flu is caused by the influenza virus. Any other illness, regardless of symptoms, that is not caused by the influenza virus is not the flu.

Covid-19 isn’t the flu. SARS isn’t the flu. Not all respiratory infections are the flu. This isn’t difficult. You are simply being a moron.

  84. The only place this virus has devastated in the US is NYC. The city that’s run by a communist mayor and an idiot governor.

oN Sunday Florida reported 15,300 new cases of Covid with 45 deaths and 248 hospitalizations and it’s all because of a Commie Mayor in NY:

There are a total of 269,811 Florida cases with 4,242 deaths related to COVID-19,” stated the health department in a news release. “Since July 11, the deaths of forty-five Florida residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have been reported in Brevard, Broward, Charlotte, Dade, Duval, Hernando, Hillsborough, Holmes, Lee, Martin, Palm Beach, Polk, Seminole and St. Lucie counties

    https://www.mynews13.com/fl/orlando/coronavirus/2020/07/12/ongoing-coronavirus-coverage

  85. New York and New Jersey learned some hard lessons and made some big mistakes.

We warned the rest of the country and tried to share our experience.

The governors of Texas, Florida and Arizona refused to listen to any of it. They thought that their states were immune. That’s why the virus is running wild in those states, and in many other states now too.

Most American Indians had no problem with the name, actually.

  88. Kurt, regardless of the merits of the name change or not I don’t think it’s got a lot to do with what you allege and think the second sentence is pretty Pete Mooreish.

    Pronunciation question:

Why do Yanks and Irish far righters like Gemmental 0’Doherty pronounce it ‘Ant-ifa’ while normal non far-right people pronounce it ‘Anti-Fa?’

  89. I call it the second way.

  90. Apologies, that was clumsily worded.

I was referring to Trump as well as anyone from his crowd I’ve heard talking about it who pronounce it the first way.

  91. I think that maybe they thing that saying it AntEEfa is a kind of insult

The letters don’t lead me to think that it should be said like that.

  92. As an abbreviation of a compound noun my phonetics tells me it should be pronounced with the three syllable ‘anti-FA with a slight emphasis on the third syllable.

  93. Agree, with the a being soft

  94. You say ANT-eefa , I say ANTI-fa. lets call the whole thing off.. 🙂

That’s why I provide links to the people who know stuff. The problem that Phantom has is that the stuff that the scientists have, to whom I link, runs contrary to what Phantom ‘knows’ and so it just gets stepped-over in the usual manner.

Anyway, here’s a paper by Fauci and people who know stuff

    https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMe2002387

    Covid-19 — Navigating the Uncharted
    List of authors.

    Anthony S. Fauci, M.D., H. Clifford Lane, M.D., and Robert R. Redfield, M.D.

If one assumes that the number of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic cases is several times as high as the number of reported cases, the case fatality rate may be considerably less than 1%. This suggests that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively.

So Fauci states in a professional paper that “the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%” and yet is telling the US to destroy its economy because of ‘the pandemic’. Obviously, somebody is paying him. Anyway, it’s over…….

Total Number of Covid Deaths in English Hospitals Falls to One

Carl Heneghan, the Professor of Evidence-Based Medicine at Oxford, tweeted that there were no Covid deaths reported in hospitals in England on July 10th, but perhaps the data source he was checking hadn’t been updated because the NHS England statistics site is now showing six. But for July 11th, the total was just one. Won’t be long now before we do have a day on which no Covid deaths occur in England’s hospitals. I predict it will happen some time in the next seven days.

Vast numbers of infected – zero deaths. Question to Phantom: what is the mortality rate?

  96. It’s not March anymore, Allan.

  97. This change, which I agree with, was driven by Fedex and corporate America

what prompted them to withdraw sponsorship I wonder ?

  98. Fedex didn’t withdraw sponsorship. They wouldn’t have been able do. They were bound by a contract.

Please pay attention to something, at least one time, I beg of you.

This has been a controversy of some years.

  99. who else pulled out and why ?

  100. Read the paper, Allan.

  101. Phantom, on July 13th, 2020 at 3:53 PM Said:

    It’s not March anymore, Allan.

No Phantom – it’s July. That’s why there’s no Covid any more. Take off your muzzle and look at the mortality rates which are somewhat less than a flu. Nobody’s dying of Covid, not even people who fell off ladders or had heart attacks.

  102. https://dailycaller.com/2020/07/10/nbc-news-contributor-battle-coronavirus-negative-antibodies/

NBC News spent weeks documenting its science contributor’s battle with COVID-19, but now he admits that he never tested positive for it.

Dr. Joseph Fair, a virologist, believed he had the virus and appeared on air numerous times to discuss his struggle with illness in May and June. On Tuesday, Fair admitted that he tested negative for the virus multiple times but had originally believed he had it regardless. Fair also tested negative upon taking an antibody test.

    HA HA HA 🙂

  110. https://www.greenmedinfo.com/blog/horowitz-cdc-confirms-remarkably-low-coronavirus-death-rate-where-media

The CDC just came out with a report that should be earth-shattering to the narrative of the political class, yet it will go into the thick pile of vital data and information about the virus that is not getting out to the public. For the first time, the CDC has attempted to offer a real estimate of the overall death rate for COVID-19, and under its most likely scenario, the number is 0.26%. Officials estimate a 0.4% fatality rate among those who are symptomatic and project a 35% rate of asymptomatic cases among those infected, which drops the overall infection fatality rate (IFR) to just 0.26% — almost exactly where Stanford researchers pegged it a month ago.

Four infectious disease doctors in Canada estimate that the individual rate of death from COVID-19 for people under 65 years of age is six per million people, or 0.0006 per cent – 1 in 166,666, which is “roughly equivalent to the risk of dying from a motor vehicle accident during the same time period.” These numbers are for Canada, which did have fewer deaths per capita than the U.S.; however, if you take New York City and its surrounding counties out of the equation, the two countries are pretty much the same. Also, remember, so much of the death is associated with the suicidal political decisions of certain states and countries to place COVID-19 patients in nursing homes. An astounding 62 percent of all COVID-19 deaths were in the six states confirmed to have done this, even though they only compose 18 percent of the national population.

Clearly, given that the risk of dying in a motor vehicle accident is roughly equivalent to dying of Covid, it’s time to ban automobiles. This would be consistent for Phantom’s ‘thinking’.

Phantom – would you confirm need to ban automobiles?

Additionally, with evidence that children are more likely to die from being hit by lightning than from Covid, would you ban lightning too?

    paul – it’s on the way……

    https://www.armstrongeconomics.com/international-news/disease/vaccines-that-change-your-dna-gates-italian-experiment/

Europe was already planning for a Vaccine ID Passport from the 3rd quarter of 2019. The real question is what is a vaccine. Gates has been funding a vaccine that is totally different. Instead of introducing a sample of a disease, he has been funding a vaccine that is in part nanobots that target to change and alter your DNA to prevent disease. This is already being met with approval and is highly questionable as to what are the long-term effects of changing someone’s DNA.

Gates has been behind the movement in the EU to compel Europeans to be vaccinated. There was even a September 12, 2019, global vaccination summit that was jointly sponsored bt the EC and Gates who controlled the World Health Organization (WHO). Roberto Burioni, a virologist at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, Italy, became a celebrity battling against vaccine skeptics by simply stating: “The Earth is round, gasoline is flammable, and vaccines are safe and effective,” he said. “All the rest are dangerous lies.”

    “safe and effective”….

    https://childrenshealthdefense.org/news/4-billion-and-growing-u-s-payouts-for-vaccine-injuries-and-deaths-keep-climbing/

The Health Resources & Services Administration just released new dollar figures reflecting payouts from the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. The payouts for vaccine injuries just went past the whopping $4 billion mark. Using the government’s own conclusion that only 1% of all vaccine injuries are reported, the $4 billion is just the tip of the iceberg. Despite assurances from CDC and our Federal agencies that all vaccines are safe, the payouts say otherwise.

  120. Colm – from your link……

Filippo Alcaini, 65, is one of the survivors being tested.

He was intubated in February after becoming severely ill, but recovered. He has been COVID-19-free for four months but he still has problems breathing and has periods of severe exhaustion.

    https://www.webmd.com/lung/ventilator-complications#1

To put you on a ventilator, your doctor sedates you. Then, they put a tube down your throat and into your windpipe. This makes it easier to get air into and out of your lungs. The process is called intubation.
    Ventilator Complications: Infection

The breathing tube in your airway could let in bacteria that infect the tiny air sacs in the walls of your lungs. Plus, the tube makes it harder to cough away debris that could irritate your lungs and cause an infection.

This type of infection is called ventilator-associated pneumonia, or VAP. It’s especially risky because you may already be quite sick when you’re put on a ventilator. VAP can make it harder to treat your other illness.

Doctors treat it with antibiotics. In some cases, VAP might require special types that can fight antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Even if you already have an infection, like a viral infection of your lungs, you can get VAP on top of that. Doctors call this a “superinfection.”

Ventilation also increases your risk of infections in other areas, like your sinuses.

    https://www.webmd.com/lung/news/20200413/higher-mortality-rate-in-ventilated-covid-19-patients-in-large-sample#1

APRIL 13, 2020 — Mortality could be as high as two thirds among patients with COVID-19 who require ventilation, new data from the United Kingdom’s Intensive Care National Audit and Research Center (ICNARC) show.

Some clinicians are asking whether other techniques, such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), could improve outcomes, but the data are unclear.

The ICNARC data, posted online April 10, include data from 3883 patients with confirmed COVID-19 who were admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland and for whom data on the first 24 hours of ICU care are available.

Of those, 871 patients died, 818 patients survived to ICU discharge, and 2194 patients were still receiving ICU care.

Among patients whose ICU outcome is known, 66.3% of the 1053 patients who required mechanical ventilated died, compared with 19.4% of the 444 patients who required basic respiratory support.

How many intubations were carried out on the Italians? It’s not in the linked report. Given the evidence that intubation is very bad for the intubee, it should have been reported – agreed?

People like Allan already have their conclusion and look for evidence that fits it, what’s ignoring any that doesn’t.

Dave – below, in the BBC report, you shall see two graphs – one shows ‘number of cases’, and is rising whilst the other shows ‘number of deaths’ and is falling.

  123. Phantom – try to stay with this one. I know that you are very limited, very limited indeed, but try to stay with this one. You wrote that Colm tries to get to the truth, and Colm linked to report about the sequels to Italy’s Covid experience. Colm asked my opinion on that report so, at 5.34pm I posted a response. So far, nobody has taken up the points that I made in the response to the report linked by Colm. Perhaps you may have something worthwhile on my response, or perhaps not?

  124. There is a coronavirus pandemic, Allan.

    Cheers

  125. Allan ignores the reports’s discovery that the virus can and has had severe effects on other organs and causes potentially long lasting serious affects on people who initialy only showed mild symptoms and were not hospitalised. This is a virus we have effectively only known since the beginning of this year and we are still discovering the consequences it can have on the body after initial infection. Allan however in his fanatical determination to “not be conned by the authorities” thinks we should all treat it as a hoax and all will be fine. No thanks.

  126. Phantom – you mention that Colm tries to get to the truth, and Colm linked to report about the sequels to Italy’s Covid experience. Colm asked my opinion on that report so, at 5.34pm I posted a response. Now, for you and Colm, the ‘truth’ is that there is a Covid-pandemic, and Colm’s linked report is part of your truth. Fair enough, it’s a viewpoint and I’ve responded to it. Do you have anything to say on the matters which I raise in my response at 5.43pm?

Come on, Phantom – stay with it. I know that it’s not easy for you, but please make an extra-special effort

If there were other real examples such as somebody young who only had minor symptoms and could be used by the reporter as an example of the post-illness severity of Covid, then I am sure that the medics would have provided such a case. All we have is a 65-year-old: it’s a bit weak, isn’t it?

Phnatom – at 5.43pm I linked directly to reports by the health professionals. I didn’t write that stuff: they did. I merely provided the links for you to read so don’t come out with your smoke-blowing. Do you have any comment on the case cited in Colm’s ‘trutheristic’ link of a 65-year-old who was intubated, and how dangerous intubation can be for the intubated patient? It’s looking like a very, VERY weak argument being put forward by Colm from a pretty poor report. The more that look at it, the worse it gets. A 65-year-old is the basis for a report that states that young people are badly affected by Covid – where are they then???? Surely 65-years isn’t young?

The doctors warn that some victims may never recover from the illness and that all age groups are vulnerable.

  132. Houston, Texas, asks for second lockdown
The leaders of Houston, Texas, are calling for another statewide lockdown after infections there climbed to more than 27,600 on Sunday.

“Not only do we need a stay home order now, but we need to stick with it this time until the hospitalisation curve comes down, not just flattens,” tweeted Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo – who oversees the most populous county in Texas – on Sunday.

“Many communities that persevered in that way are reopening for the long haul. Let’s learn from that (and) not make the same mistake twice.”

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said over the weekend that he disagrees with the governor’s effort to reopen schools.

“It makes no sense to be having this conversation while this virus is out of control,” Turner said on Saturday. “You don’t send kids back to school when there’s a raging fire and the fires still burning in August.

“Put the doggone fire out in July, so shut down for a couple of weeks.”

Texas recorded 8,100 new cases on Sunday and 80 Covid-related deaths.

Belly up the bar, mahons is buying

  150. To a certain extent you can minimize exposure to guns, and you can definitely avoid using deadly drugs.

But if few are wearing masks, it will be hard to go around town living your life normally, including going to restaurants and ball games without catching the virus.

  151. Mahons

It is estimated that just over 150,000 people die every day. That means that every hour more than 6,000 people die.

Add your thoughts to that. Covid no Covid 150,000 a Day, 6000 an hour.

A lot of those people could be saved. Covid is a passing thing. That number however is a constant. What are you doing for them ?

  152. We do not know that Covid is a passing thing.

    Who told you that?

  153. that’s to you also Phantom….. 150,000 die a day. What do you propose to do about it?

Should we all stay in our cocoons from birth till death, never venturing from our sterile environment?

Is your home hermetically sealed ? Do you have a sterilization station at your door where you can strip and be disinfected?

  154. We do not know that Covid is a passing thing.

    Who told you that?

    mother nature.

  155. I propose that we minimize transmission of the virus, in ways consistent with a good economy. That we learn from smart countries like Taiwan, Japan and Germany.

And that we take the best care of those who catch it.

And that we work to crushing the virus with a vaccine as soon as possible.

    That’s what I propose.

    Sorry, I cannot be distracted.

  156. Mother Donald more like it.

  157. Have you been tested for the virus and the antibodies ?

I take it by your silence the answer is no.

    You could be carrier.

  158. You and your partner Allan said that it was only the flu.

I had a flu shot late last year.

So why get tested for something that I’m already vaccinated for?

  159. Sorry, I cannot be distracted.

No you can’t be motivated to help the suffering…. yeah you can whine about people wearing masks, but what have you done to help?

Put any care packages together, volunteer at any facility, church, school, or group that has organized relief for those impacted by corona?

  160. So why get tested for something that I’m already vaccinated for?

There are 7 different Flu vaccines that they guess at which one will be this years Flu, 3 out of 10 years they pick the wrong one, seven out of 10 it mutates and the vaccine’s defense is weakened or nullified.

Plus if you’ve been vaccinated for the measles it won’t do shit for chicken pox.

So even though you live in the one area where testing is guaranteed to be available you can’t be bothered….. oh ok, but we have to wear a mask.

    Carrier…..

  161. There is no corona.

    It is the flu, remember?
