THERE’S A GUY WORKS DOWN THE CHIP SHOP …

By Pete Moore On August 4th, 2020

There is intense speculation in the Spanish media about the whereabouts of embattled ex-King Juan Carlos, after his shock announcement on Monday that he was leaving the country.

The 82-year-old, who is targeted by a corruption probe, announced the move in a letter posted on the royal website […]

In the letter, the former monarch wrote that he was leaving “in the face of the public repercussions that certain past events in my private life are generating” and in the hope of allowing his son to carry out his functions as king with “tranquillity”.

Kings have a nicely understated way of putting it. I don’t know the details of accusations against the erstwhile Spanish king. I’m sure they are serious. However he remains available “if prosecutors needed to speak to him”. That’s quite a generous offer, really.

  1. TV here reporting he’s in Costa Rica.

  2. Nah, he’s working in Costa coffee… and he swears he’s Elvis 🙂

  3. Doesn’t he look a lot like actor Jim Broadbent.

  4. There is a slight resemblance, yes I can see it. But isn’t it a good thing that even a former King is not exempt in Spain from criminal prosecution for wrongdoing. I wonder what the situation would be here in the UK if Her Maj was caught dipping her fingers illegally in the State financial pot ?
