September 8 1966

By Patrick Van Roy On September 8th, 2020

Gene Roddenberry pitched his story of 23rd-century interstellar exploration as a sort of outer space Western, and tonight ‘Star Trek‘ makes its TV debut. The series will be cancelled just three seasons in, but reruns in syndication prove that the show will live long and prosper.

  1. Cultural Marxist multi cultural/ racial/ alien life form propaganda.

A superb mold breaker of a show.

  2. may it live long and prosper.

  3. I’m re-watching the original series at the minute, having watched all the other franchises over the past couple of months. I still have to watch all of Picard though.
Star Trek: Lower Decks is very funny 🙂

I think I’ll have to order a few bottles of this for Christmas 🙂

    Qapla’!

  4. Which of the franchises would you recommend?

  5. I enjoyed them all, to be honest, and all for different reasons.
Enterprise was the least popular, and only lasted for 4 seasons, but it was interesting, as it was set before the Original Series, so they were learning to use their new technology – phase pistols, transporter, Warp 5 etc. Plus, it introduced different races for the first time, and tied up some irregularities from the subsequent franchises.
My best advice is to watch them all in order.
Discovery is very good, as its definitely aimed at a more mature audience, and Picard, so far, is amazing.

  6. Seimi,

I’ll pop round and help you drink it mate. I have to say if we’re following Klingon tradition, we have to fight to the death afterwards.

Are there any tickets being sold?

  8. Despite being a huge science fiction fan I was never really into the Star Trek universe. I watched all of the original series when I was a kid I did enjoy it. but I’ve only watched a few episodes of The next generation. I never bothered with Enterprise, Deep Space Nine or any of the other spin offs. I do like Patrick Stewart though, and I fancy watching that series Picard.
I’m more of an Ian M Banks, William Gibson, Philip K Dick, Douglas Adams type of guy.

  9. Recommend them all Deep Space 9 is the only one I would skip.

There are but in true Klingon tradition, you have to fight someone for them.

  11. Both the new ones are great, there is also a third one about to start based on Pike.

TOS and TNG are the same structure formulae, Enterprise was good but ended as a hollowdeck ep on TNG, Voyager was fun.

  12. I’ll bring my Batliff

Think I might give Picard a go.

No problem. I’m fighting Jimmy Cranky then

  14. call me a bigot , but when i watched an episode from the new generation and those klingons had become friends with captain kirk, this guy with a funny vein on his head was in the control tower i could not cope with it ..
it ruined it for me, as the Klingons belong on the starboard bow, not in the deck
    never watched another episode.

like dynasty without JR ( larry hagman, its just not right
call me a bigot , but some things you don’t mess with 😉

I thought Worf was one of the better characters in Star Trek the next generation. Certainly less annoying than Wesley. Seven of Nine was my favourite though. Phwarrr!

Today is a good day to die! 😊

I would have agreed re DS9 a year ago, but I re-watched it recently and enjoyed it. Its much more political than the other series, with much longer story arcs and continuing character development.

    Dave

I liked Worf too, though there were too many ‘let’s make fun of the Klingon, because he doesn’t have a sense of humour’ bits in TNG and DS9

  17. Getting far too technical for me:
