El Paso
By Patrick Van Roy On September 17th, 2020For Charles
The suspect, 30-year-old Isaiah Cantrell, said that he destroyed the 90-year-old statue because Jesus’s skin color was wrong and should have been darker. https://t.co/AMf0g3gNbX

Some of the racism we’ve been speaking about.
I never would have thought this stuff would hit El Paso. Shawn King will be so proud that people are following his “suggestions.”
Pelosi did not criticize the destruction of other statues.
Maybe she can pretend to disapprove of this cultural atrocity.
Democracy is messy, you know.
Patrick, can you check your e-mail please?
certainly…… it will take a bit, but no prob.
//Maybe she can pretend to disapprove of this cultural atrocity.//
Phantom, I honestly think you are much more likely to welcome this (perhaps secretly) than she is.
OMG
Even for someone who throws the racist epithet around with such freedom that’s some stretch.
Noel
I’m genuinely surprised that you of all people would say that. I fully expect that of others.
This is an ugly, sustained thing. There have been quite few other similar attacks on statues at Catholic churches in NYC and nationally, now in Texas, by religious and political bigots, as well as the many attacks on statues of military and political figures.
There are two political parties here, and one has been generally silent on the matter, and the other has condemned the destruction in a loud voice.
And we’re not supposed to ever think or talk about it?
If it is OK to talk about it, what should be said?
Is this a good response to what is happening?

The vandalism was based on race.
The words of the suspect confirm that.

Left-liberalism is truly a mental illness. We’ve allowed it to radicalise the simple-minded for too long.
It’s amazing.
Now the usuals will say that it is a one off and that it’s not based on hatred and bigotry and that it is racist to talk about it. Because it’s a ” wedge issue ” or whatever.
As I said, that’s some stretch. Probably a ‘hate crime’ too.
Stop making things up. Your the one who loves the casual ‘rascist’ allegations.
“Jesus was Jewish and therefore should be a darker skin color.”
Note
should be a darker skin color
Here’s a clue, Phantom. A statue, whose image has been manipulated for a European population, doesn’t have ‘skin’.
The same people who will go volcanic is someone burns a Koran. It’s as if they have an agenda.
Delicious irony.
whose image has been manipulated for a European population
Keep talking.
I beg of you.
From the distant past, from before JFK took office, the great Marty Robbins sings of El Paso
Rosa’s cantina was a real place, and remains a functioning restaurant.

Why not just say what’s on your mind instead of some vague, opaque guff?
He’s saying he wants you to elaborate on your faery tale about the pic being manipulated for the weenies
I think he can talk for himself?
Beer summit in El Paso!
Jesus looks like Robert Powell. Every body knows that.
This hatred fueled vandalism is not new at all
Could link to a number of local incidents quickly from memory

There have been attacks on church statues and churches for as long as I can recall, and from across the political and sanity spectrum.
