Because Friday night is Music Night

Another week done at the coalface of capitalism, and what a busy week it’s been. By now all that stands between economic recovery and economic disaster is my alarm clocks, all four of them. If they fail to rouse me from my golden slumbers we’ve had it.

So a rushed Music Night because I’d almost forgotten the sounds. It’s the little things that can make a tune. The little lifts and dips, the slight change in tempo. They act on us. Listen to the opening line of this Bolan belter. Listen to the harmonic lift right at the end: “Whatever happened to the teenage dree-EEEAM?” Love it. It absolutely hits my spot, that does. Have fun whatever you’re up this weekend. It’s chock-a-block with European rugby, so that’s me sorted.

As always, feel free to share your top sounds down below –

  1. I think you’ll enjoy this one Pete. And the music’s good as well, from Franz Offenbach:

  2. And here is Anna Netrebko singing a Richard Strauss lullaby. Netrebko is currently in hospital in Moscow with the virus. Lucky she lives in Vienna and has never met Navalny.

  3. Some nice sorts. I hope that wasn’t too technical an analysis of the performances. I see that that Elīna Garanča is Latvian. She has a very Germanic look about her. Something Prussian must be going on there.

  4. When I was about 20 I dumped Olivia Newton-John for Marisa Berenson, after seeing Stanley Kubiick’s brilliant Barry Lyndon. I have no regrets.
