A Prayer

By Patrick Van Roy On November 26th, 2020

Today is Thanksgiving and I shall give some.

Thank you oh Lord for the gifts of my life, my family, my friends and my foes.

Each and every moment of my life has been a blessing even if I was unable to see it, and I have been made richer by each.

For this Lord I give Thanks.

May God Bless you All, keep your families safe, and your cups full.

  1. Happy Thanksgiving Patrick, and all ATWs yanks. Enjoy your day however you spend it.

  2. About two weeks ago I took out a subscription to the CALM relaxation app and let myself be talked into buying a pricey pair of “airpods” to match.

I’m already addicted. There are all kinds of functions, like relaxation and meditation and breathing exercises, and loads of other things, but so far I’ve used only the sleep functions in an attempt to get a handle on one of the big bugbears of my life – inability to fall asleep after the stress of computer work. The app really does the job and I’d strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun way to wind down (and you can even take it much further for promoting your mental health if you feel so inclined).

In any case, one of the things that’s evident throughout the app – which was obviously devised by psychologists, or even psychiatrists – is GRATITUDE. There are so many exercises, stories etc about finding and showing gratitude for all the good things of life. I mention it here because it had never struck me that this human instinct to show thanksgiving (also on all the other days of the year) is not just socially good and generates harmony with others, but is also so good for your individual psychology and mental health.

I never had this problem until Covid and the working from home period, which has gone on now for more than 6 months. I’m not sure why it would impact on sleep but I often now can’t get off to sleep or else wake up at 2 or 3am and can’t get back for a couple of hours.

  4. Patrick — Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. And the same to Phantom, Mahons, and our other American friends.

  5. Surrender and Gratitude Noel are the keys to life.

  6. Today will be the first Thanksgiving in 24 years that Monica and I will be alone.

We have a Turkey and all the fixins, and we made a homemade Pumpkin Pie.

We will be going at some point today to the shelter and help serve those in need, but we’re not officially working it this year. We did the set up instead of serving.

Being highrisk I’m not allowed to serve for my safety, but we refuse not to help.

  7. Happy Thanksgiving to all here.

This is the most universal holiday in America.

Not entirely the same this year as normal, but it’s still a treasured day of connection and thankfulness.

  8. Can’t really say I understand it (seems like a mini-Christmas thing) but ultimately I hope all the Americans here have a good Thanksgiving.

  9. It’s a practice run for Christmas isn’t it? Like mock exams.

  10. It is a Day for giving Thanks for our Blessings.

It is not a little christmas or anything of the sort. What it obviously is though from the comments above is just one more thing about America that you don’t understand.

The holiday is based on this film, a tribute to Steve Martin and John Candy 🙂

  12. a classic Phantom

  13. I really miss John Candy. He was great in that movie.

I think Thanksgiving is a plot dreamt up by the poultry and pumpkin industry.
Allan will probably have evidence (((they))) are behind it.
