HOW MANY OF US ARE THERE?

By Pete Moore On January 8th, 2021

Moderna’s vaccine was approved in the UK today. If Guido is correct that means the UK has ordered: Pfizer (40 million); Oxford (100 million) and Moderna (17 million).

At trial stage are vaccines in development by Janssen, Novavax, GSK/Sanofi and Valneva delivering a potential 340 million doses.

I know there’s been a bit of immigration but some 500 million doses seems rather excessive. We’ll be finding them in Christmas crackers and cereal boxes for years. Still, can’t complain. Three working vaccines within a year of a novel virus is pretty impressive.

  1. Don’t forget that Pfizer and Moderna require two jabs.

And yes it’s great that the companies have produced vaccines so quickly.

I wish them all success, including the Russian Sputnik-V vaccine, and the others.

May they all work and may the virus go away.

  2. Wouldn’t it be great of for once in this whole affair the govt. actually managed to deliver what they promised and Boris’s reaches the target he promised by Mid-February. Fingers crossed. The way the infection is spreading, the vaccines are our only hope of getting out of this restrictive depressing scenario we are all in.

  3. thinking of you in london colm, the mayor has called an emergency
troubling is there seems to be a requirement for a GP to oversee each vaccination
This is going to slow things down to a snail pace, might be wrong but that’s what i’m hearing
took my Dad in a fortnight ago , its very slow .. they have a long chat with GP, then the jab, then a 20 min wait . I saw 3-5 people done in a couple of hours !
targets ? shit I’ll volunteer to do some vaccines myself .. not a hope in hell of reaching target unless there’s a huge recruitment , plus opening up some of the old pubs now closed which can be turned into centres . Keir Starmer ( labour ) is on the ball
Lets do this 24/7 – he said – round the clock till we got it done , now that’s the kinda spirit we need

  4. troubling is there seems to be a requirement for a GP to oversee each vaccination

That can’t be right. There are nowhere near enough GPs to do that see every other patient. The woman who gave me the flu jab last weekend wasn’t a GP, and I assume that was little different from administering a Covid jab.

  5. And yes it’s great that the companies have produced vaccines so quickly.

I’m not an egghead but I have the feeling that this last year has seen almost scientific miracles which haven’t yet been recognised. Maybe the world is a bit disatracted with the virus and other news, or there’s relief coupled with a feeling that we just need to get the vaccines into us.

  6. three graphs showing the explosion in covid in UK

new variant is 30-70% more transmissible

    I’m not an egghead

    No f*****g s**t!

  8. they pre-ordered the vaccines before approval or efficacy so thats why there are way more vaccines ordered then people

Canada did the same thing, that way if one wasn’t approved they had orders for the others

Of course all orders were placed with the caveat that they had to be effective and approved

PS> as for administering the jab, here they are using doctors, dentists and talk even of veterinarians. I think the GP is to monitor for possible reactions

  9. To speed things up they should use anyone familiar with inserting things in people. Doctors Dentists Vets, heck even Prostitutes 😉

  10. Colm

In that case, they should get Boris Johnson and his chums in government to administer the jab. They’ve been successfully screwing people for decades.

By the way – ‘heck’? Where the hell do you think you are?

  11. I am a man of the world Seimi. Yes siree 😉

  12. Here I would expect that very many of the vaccines will be administered by pharmacists at drug stores. as flu shingles. And other vaccines are commonly administered

  13. Yes siree

I used it in a satirical skit. You’re using it for reals, dude 🙂

  14. Woteva 😉

  15. //I have the feeling that this last year has seen almost scientific miracles which haven’t yet been recognised//

But apparently a vaccine against political derangement is still beyond even the best scientists.
