1.- Nazi Germany held people in camps for being racially Jewish something they had no control over. It was a prelude to exterminating them
2- Modern Germany is trying to prevent people infecting others with a potentially deadly highly contagious virus. It is trying to save lives not take them. It requires people with the virus or those at risk of having it to self isolate. Only those who CHOOSE repeatedly to break essential public health measures are at risk of having to complete their isolation in these camps. It is very easy for any individual to avoid having to spend any time in these camps.
3. If these camps were being used to continue holding indefinitely foreign (mainly Muslim) asylum seekers, I wonder if we would still this alarmist ‘Nazi history repeating itself’ post ?
If these camps were being used to continue holding indefinitely foreign (mainly Muslim) asylum seekers, I wonder if we would still this alarmist ‘Nazi history repeating itself’ post ?
No, it’s Germany. Merkel will always get a pass. She could shoot a poor, bearded muslim child on the Unter den Linden and the media would praise her markswomanship.
No Daphne, you stay here instead. You’ve done your disappearing act. Now you can stay, get ATW back on track and comment us through the great four years you voted for.
Well that’s it folks, ATW is now a full-blown conspiracy website.
I genuinely cannot believe that a man of David’s supposed intelligence, could make that comparison.
No wonder people don’t want to post here anymore.
A deflective argument Peter. This post is about David comparing German attempts to restrict the spread of COVID to the nazi extermination of Jews, and instead of actually attempted to counter my comment, Pete lazily throws in an utterly pathetic irrelevant and false claim about Merkel killing Muslims !
Phantom has my email if anyone else starts an alternative site. I miss regular conversations with so many of you good, interesting people. ❤️
I stopped writing here when David made Troll a contributor. I asked him to remove my name from the site because I didn’t want to be associated with Troll in any capacity. I think that was a good decision.
Anyone who puts anyone in concentration, segregation, reeducation, camps are all commie. They may not call themselves that but that’s what they are. The only time any camp is not of commie origin is a POW camp and they can very easily become a commie camp.
When you separate any group of people and place them in a “camp” you are instituting a commie practice, you can call yourselves or your cause what you want but you’re a commie totalitarian fascist committing genocide.
They aren’t segregated, concentrated, or pow’d Colm they illegal combatants that just be sittin around waitin to be shot…. as a matter fact non of them ever existed 😉
This is all so much drivel, it’s hard to know where to start.
First: Germany is not “building camps” for the alleged purpose, as the header here says. That’s a lie.
Second: No such measure is, or can be, “according to plans drawn up by the German government”, as David claims. Public health, and thus the Covid response, in Germany is a matter for the individual states, not the German government.
Third: The measure most likely being referred to here (naturally in the rag quoted no sources are given) is that Covid-infected people who continue to refuse to quarantine and are caught outside interacting with others, can be arrested and held in detention centres. Not the simple citizen innocently going about his business, as is stated here.
The mentioning of segregated parts of hospitals as a place to house these law-breakers should have been a hint to anyone with a bit of sense that we’re talking about those tested positive for Covid.
Another possible basis for the nonsense is that certain refugee centres (there are no “camps”) are put under complete lockdown when a certain critical rate of infections in the centre has been reached.
But I’m sure David and those of like mindlessness would cheer that on.
Dave’s reference to the concentration camps in which British Authorities interned Dutch families during the Boer War is important. Incredible to think that 26,000 women and children died in these camps.
The thing is, it would be possible to put forward an alternative reasonable argument against a policy of coercive measures which could be debated rationally, but ridiculous OTT “Its Auschwitz all over again” claims like here are just daft and so easy to demolish.
Biden administration is preparing to address the pandemic in a far more organized way than the expiring administration has.
The feds will be much more involved in ensuring that there are enough injection sites, enough people to staff them, enough vaccine being produced.
A lot of this could have been done six months ago, but wasn’t. The unsexy but necessary nuts and bolts preparation work was ignored, or delegated entirely to states that themselves have often done poorly
The Trump administration has been poor, begrudging at sharing information with the new team, which hurts the process.
But let there be no doubt – there will be a real change of attitude and performance on Covid, effective this week.
Its a pity David doesn’t engage in debate here anymore, but I guess he is busy with his fingers in many different pies and at least he allows us to continue chewing over this pie 🙂
//The thing is, it would be possible to put forward an alternative reasonable argument against a policy of coercive measures which could be debated rationally, but ridiculous OTT “Its Auschwitz all over again” claims like here are just daft and so easy to demolish.//
Exactly. The German govt deserves much criticism for its handling of the pandemic, or especially the vaccines, which some have commented on here. I think this mistake will soon become very clear, especially compared to the UK after the much faster action by the British govt starts to take effect.
The same goes for many other continental countries. A lot of criticism is warranted.
But I suppose it better grabs the attention of simple minds if you put up pictures of Auschwitz.
Another area where I think all European countries have failed is their laxness on controlling International travel. As far as I am aware no restrictions were placed throughout last year on Europeans wanting to have their foreign holidays and millions of them (including Brits and the Irish) still had their Meditteranenan and even further summer sizzler tan top ups. All that did was ensure such mass movements of people would keep the virus circulating and expanding everywhere. There may have been some economic justification for such laxness but it was a false and counterproductive policy. I much prefer the NZ/Australian approach where they took a ‘put out the fire now’ attitude to Covid rather than ‘manage the flames’ as we did. they virtually halted all travel in and out of their countries and look where they both are now, effectively fully opened up and back to normal internally.
I agree it might have been more difficult throughout the continent especially with the Open shengen land borders but certainly the ridiculously lax lack of air travel restrictions helped at least fuel some virus spreading that could have been avoided.
It certainly helped, but it can’t have been a really significant factor. The big surge in Europe, everywhere in Europe, started in October when there wasn’t much travel.
Hard to prove, but I believe that people let their guard down, and that a pernicious segment in the populations had never taken it very seriously in the first place.
We should have used the summer months to drive further down to try and achieve ‘zero Covid’ as best we could when it would have been easier to do so but instead we allowed the low numbers to relax our guard and even to encourage people back to communal workspaces and hospitality gatherings . That meant there was still a communal level of infection bubbling into Autumn to fuel the winter exponential rises. A stronger effort in late summer /early Autumn might have prevented the Europe back on lockdown we are now experiencing through the first quarter of this new year.
I hope very much that we can break the back of this thing in all our countries over the next few months, as the weather gets warmer and more get the vaccine.
Here in the NYC area, the number of new cases is moving significantly downward day by day again, hopefully for good.
New Zealand has had 25 deaths in total. Australia less than 1,000. They have done hugely better than our 2 countries and are virtually back to normal. There is a lot that can be done better than we did.
Asia is a better example IMO than the remote Australia / NZ
There was no simpering about masks, they just got on with it, and look at their result, despite them being right next to China.
The West could have done far better than it did. Especially the piss poor USA, UK, and Brazil, countries that had lazy and unfocused national leaders and a selfish minority of the population that never cared to have a slight inconvenience in order to protect their neighbor.
I totally agree mate. Whilst I appreciate that this was an exceptional situation for governments of the world to handle, and not one which theyve had any real experience dealing with before, a hell of a lot of mistakes were made. Some honest, some idiotic, some deliberate. Such as having a president who openly dismisses the wearing of masks and the severity of this virus.
//Well that’s it folks, ATW is now a full-blown conspiracy website.//
Right yet again, Dave.
When someone disagrees with you it’s not necessarily because they are under the spell of conspiracy peddlers. Neither are they are not necessarily Nazis or any other kind of fascist.
These ideas have taken widespread root at astonishing speed on the left. For the good of society they need to re-learn the art of disagreeing with civility.
There was no simpering about masks, they just got on with it, and look at their result, despite them being right next to China.
Shutting their borders didn’t do it. Having strict and enforced contact tracing and isolation policies didn’t do it. Being relatively healthy didn’t do it. Having adequate levels of vitamin D3 and zinc didn’t do it. Their immune systems being exposed to very similar viruses in the recent past didn’t do it.
To be fair this is an extremely complicated situation. And there were numerous factors other than wearing masks which of contributed to the differences between covid infections and deaths in various countries.
Pete does make a good point here. A comprehensive decisive well rounded series of different high level professional approaches is what does the trick. You do seem to have quite a fixation on mask wearing as the ‘magic bullet’ Phantom. They are useful and I absolutely agree they should be enforced in shared public spaces but they are not the No 1 preventer of infection.
They are no magic bullet but I do notice that all the successful countries have worn them with no complaint, a fact that escapes many here. many who have fought them since day one.
says the man that lives in a city with the strictest rules and the most American dead.
It’s a virus, masks are less than 10% effective always have been and always will be. You can’t hide from a germ, bacteria or virus. You can take precautions, but no matter what you are going to be exposed.
This virus has a close to a 99% survival rate for all who get it.
I saw one major survey some months ago which tested many different common commercially sold non medical masks that were being used by the general public. The estimate was that the best reduced transmission of virus particles by about 88% and the worst was about 45% .
Remember months ago we showed the Japanese video of how they worked to reduce the aerosol drops?
Yeah, “drops”. That’s the point. Not viruses a million times smaller.
A few weeks ago I had a flu jab early on a Saturday morning. It was sub-zero, very frosty and icy. I put the chin hammock on as I walked across the car park to the clinic, where a lovely young nurse with a gorgeous arse would do the deed.
I immediately noticed how my breath was billowing out through the mask, which I do know how to fit properly, as if I wasn’t wearing one. I breathed a few more times while stood still, in rapt admiration at the patterns the early morning sunshine was making through the vapour.
And I chuckled at how dumb you have to be to think that these things make the slightest difference.
By the way, UK compliance with mask wearing is very high. Levels of vitamin D3 and zinc not so much at this time of year. That’s a hint. Look elsewhere.
Yeah, “drops”. That’s the point. Not viruses a million times smaller.
You posted this before Pete, but because I’m a nice guy, I didn’t want to embarrass you at the time.
However, this time I have to point out, this is a really f****** stupid thing to say.
The Virus is tiny, but it cannot travel outside of a drop. The virus is carried in droplets in aerosol form or on surfaces. These droplets, (well still small comparatively), are much bigger than the virus, and a percentage of them are trapped by the wearing of face masks.
//You expect people to wear masks in their own homes ?//
In Germany at least, at-home socialising, especially among young people, has been more or less identified as one of the main drivers of the latest surge. I presume it’ll be the same in the UK. They don’t wear masks at home, Colm.
If you are meeting a group of pals in the house you actually should wear masks.
That this sounds shocking shows why there is still a problem in our lands
Wearing masks is not any fun, but it’s not forever.
You are not expected to wear masks in the company of your family, those you normally live with. But in the company of any guest it is a really really good idea to do so.
Allowing anyone non-resident in your own home for a social visit is not permitted at the moment in the UK. People breaking those regulations aren’t going to be bothered about wearing a mask.
You had the flu jab ? You wuss. No red blooded Englishman would bother with that this year
He would if he’d spent two months trying to get a jab in the first place. I saw that flu has been flattened by Covid this year, or maybe these sky high Covid numbers are other viruses, but there had been a shortage of flu vaccines from October. Even if it was pointless I was became determined to get a flu jab, just because.
It’s that dogged determination which forged the British Empire, the best thing which ever happened to an undeserving world, and which secured our national liberation from the EU.
You shouldn’t objectify those fine professional young men Pete 🙂
You are not expected to wear masks in the company of your family, those you normally live with. But in the company of any guest it is a really really good idea to do so.
We’re not doing that! We’e not having guests. No mixing. No-one is mixing.
The cases aren’t going to fall. They may go up and down but the virus shows no sign of fading and has started to mutate. Mutating can be a good thing, but no luck there so far.
Get sick, or get the vaccine those are actually your two best defenses.
Those of us with no immune system understand that it’s a matter of when and how bad, not If… and what I have to live in bubble with a fantasy that I’m safe.
Cases in London specifically and the UK in general are starting to fall , but from a high level. We still have bad death rates but numbers testing positive are falling about 20-25% a week. There is no limit on how far you can go to exercise walk or cycle but there have been incidents of people being stopped if they travel too many miles somewhere by car.
NYC new cases have gone down eight days in a row. Still high, but the decline is very promising.
Hospitalizations have not declined but that is a lagging indicator, hopefully they start to fall soon.
I believe that El Paso cases have significantly declined since early December but that they’re trending back up now.
—
I saw an Irish chat room where people were actually justifying the 5km limit for cyclists. That is seriously dense. You should encourage exercise in the open air, not discourage it.
Still waiting for you to explain what you mean by the virus being small enough to fit through masks mate. Apparently you have some evidence that the medical and scientific community doesn’t have that the virus can travel outside of droplets.
I’m surprised your friends described Hyde Park as being near empty. Most parks have been fairly busy. Walking through parks and popping into supermarkets is about the only thing you can do in London at the moment 🙂
Come on smartass you made this claim several times. Answer the f****** question.
Still waiting for you to explain what you mean by the virus being small enough to fit through masks mate. Apparently you have some evidence that the medical and scientific community doesn’t have that the virus can travel outside of droplets.
ATW does not operate on fresh air! We have running costs and if you want to give us a hand, once a year, then HIT THE TIP and feed the beast that is our hosting company!
You do not defeat terrorism by rewarding terrorists, regardless of how many bleeding heart liberals argue otherwise. Want to know where that flawed approach leads to? Read UNIONISM DECAYED 1997-2007 - It's my first book and it explains what happens when you seeek to appease terrorists and call it peace. It's available right now for ATW readers so make sure you get your copy by emailing the editor! This is the book that dissents from the herd mentality that doing wrong can lead to being right. It doesn't and this book spells out WHY.
Absurd attempt at false equivalence.

It is wrong to compare that with this, to misuse the image of the death camp in this way.

Troll is one of the dumbest bastards on the internet and what’s become of Pete is a baffling mystery.
No wonder there are few participants these days. Surprised so many sane, decent people still persist.
Maybe one of y’all should start a new site. A new, friendly bar that’s not quite so toxic and unhinged. WordPress makes it easy.

Colm
Re Pete’s 9.51, could both things not be true at the same time?
Rightworld would undoubtedly have no problem with camps for Muslims, but Merkel’s pedestal is very high for the liberal media, is it not?
A deflective argument Peter. This post is about David comparing German attempts to restrict the spread of COVID to the nazi extermination of Jews, and instead of actually attempted to counter my comment, Pete lazily throws in an utterly pathetic irrelevant and false claim about Merkel killing Muslims !

You’re interesting, factual and insightful contributions are greatly missed also Daphne. ♥️
The right wing military government in Argentina had concentration camps
The Serbs in Bosnia had concentration camps where there was government organized killing and rape. I suppose that the Serbs were “ liberal commies “

There are many other examples

There is of course enormous travel every day between Italy ( where it arose first in Europe ) and every other country in Europe.

Allowing anyone non-resident in your own home for a social visit is not permitted at the moment in the UK. People breaking those regulations aren’t going to be bothered about wearing a mask.
You’re degenerate.

Are you keeping a close eye on new cases in London and England
Have they started to fall?
We’re not doing that! We’e not having guests. No mixing. No-one is mixing.
Your rules and those of the Irish are way stricter than ours still.
I read that the gardai were stopping cyclists who were 5km from their homes because it was out of radius for this time. We have none of that.

I saw an Irish chat room where people were actually justifying the 5km limit for cyclists. That is seriously dense. You should encourage exercise in the open air, not discourage it.
I have friends, a married couple from PA, who have been spending a work assignment of two years in London.
So they get to experience this, there.
It is still the adventure of a lifetime. She has walked through a nearly empty Hyde Park in recent days.
I notice Patrick still hasn’t provided evidence to back up his bulshit lying claims.
Pere Moore.

Not saying that it’s empty all the time. But it was empty a couple of mornings, and she liked it, having this grand green space all to herself.
depends on what section of Pa, the restrictions in this state are a mess.
Pere Moore.
Come on smartass you made this claim several times. Answer the f****** question.

Patrick where’s the evidence!!
You truly are the king of talking s*** and making stuff up.
And I’m still waiting for your evidence that parler was shut down at ISP level..
