What I Like Best about Being a Conservative

By ATWadmin On April 25th, 2007 at 4:00 am

Andrew Klavan speaks for me:

"The thing I like best about being a conservative is that I don’t have to lie. I don’t have to pretend that men and women are the same. I don’t have to declare that failed or oppressive cultures are as good as mine. I don’t have to say that everyone’s special or that the rich cause poverty or that all religions are a path to God. … I don’t have to pretend that Islam means peace….

…….leftism’s great strength (is that)  it’s all white lies. That’s its only advantage, as far as I can tell. None of its programs actually works, after all. From statism and income redistribution to liberalized criminal laws and multiculturalism, from its assault on religion to its redefinition of family, leftist policies have made the common life worse wherever they’re installed. But because it depends on—indeed is defined by—describing the human condition inaccurately, leftism is nothing if not polite. With its tortuous attempts to rename unpleasant facts out of existence—he’s not crippled, dear, he’s handicapped; it’s not a slum, it’s an inner city; it’s not surrender, it’s redeployment—leftism has outlived its own failure by hiding itself within the most labyrinthine construct of social delicacy since Victoria was queen.

This is no small thing. To rewrite the rules of courteous behavior is to wield enormous power. I see it in Southern California, in the bleeding heart of leftism, where I live. I’ve been banned from my monthly poker game, lost tennis partners, lost friends—not because I’m belligerent but because I’ve wondered aloud if the people shouldn’t be allowed to make their own abortion laws, say, or if the world might not be a better place without the UN…. "                                                       Read the whole thing.

You do have to wonder just how BARBARIC Islam is. Or do you?

I was looking at the results of a new poll conducted across several Islamic States and the following caught me eye.

  • "Only" 30% strongly support Bin Laden.
  • "Only" 70% want to see strict Sharia in every Islamic country.
  • "Only" 20% believed the USA was responsible for 9/11,  with only 3% of Pakistanis prepared to blame Al Queda.
  • "Only" 63% want to see all USA bases removed from Islamic countries.
  • And finally – relax, "Only" 40% believe suicide bombings are justified.
  • With around 1 billion Muslims, that’s only 400 million we might need to worry about.

It’s a strange business for sure. I’m talking about the status of BBC correspondent Alan Johnston, who was apparently abducted in Gaza on 12 March. Since then, an Islamic group has claimed they KILLED him. Now we hear that Johnston is in GOOD HEALTH, if Palestinian Deputy Prime Minister Azzam al-Ahmad is to be believed. Must be awful for his family but you have to wonder about the games Palestinians play?

Again, and again, and again!

Some of the readers of this blog may remember my post entitled "They are only lent to us" which I wrote on the 11th of this month. This chronicled the short life and silent death of one Mitchell Bate, a tiny girl only twenty-two months old, who died at the hands of her biological parents (I use the term because I refuse to give these two monsters the titles of Father and Mother, as these are honourable titles, and this couple are truly undeserving of being thought of as anything honourable in relation to that tiny child)!

I thought at the time that I had read some of the worst which so-called humankind dealt to it’s innocents, but read today of something even worse than that previous deadly duo. A sub-human by the name of Nathan Grain fed his infant son doses of methadone and diazepam in order to stop him crying. Tiny Luke Grain, when he perished, had levels of methadone in his system which were bound to kill him, along with sufficient diazepam to knock out a fully-grown adult!

His mother, also on a methadone programme (such sweet caring people we hold as parents), came home, and learned from her ever-loving and caring husband that Luke had been asleep all day!

I only hope that this murderous fool is sent to a prison which holds ordinary decent criminals, and they mete out to him only a fraction of the punishment which should be given this animal, but which is forbidden under our so-called humane society’s rules!

And before I get any comments which decry my hopes of a revenge for the soul of this tiny baby, just ask yourselves this; WHAT IF THAT CHILD WAS YOURS?

right to ‘life’

z4009320X.jpgPolands Catholics are furious at the ECHR and have inundated it with angry letters after Alicja Tysiac, a brave 36 year old mother of three, won a case for £16,000 compensation after being forced to complete a pregnancy doctors warned would leave her with severely impaired sight. Polish law, considered liberal, forbids abortion except in cases of rape, severe birth defects or when it endangers the life or health of the mother. The government actually want to ban it altogether – that includes where the mothers life is in danger and rape.  Doctors refused her an abortion and the pregnancy resulted in her sight being reduced to only being able to see objects less than 5 feet away. Whats disgusting though, is how she is now being vilified.  Fundamentalist catholics are treating her ‘like a murderer’ and are ‘refusing to baptise her child’  (i thought the child was innocent) and are even demonstrating against her receiving the money.  Gazeta Wyborcza concludes on (the point) the utter shame and moral hypocrisy of any religious argument: ‘it seems Catholics will do everything to ensure people are brought into the world but care little what happens to them after that’. Precisely.  There is already one ‘moral’ debate here on something that won’t just disappear because people think its ‘wrong’, want to persecute doctors for providing safe health access for women or make it uselesslly illegal,  so this thread is closed! Fingers crossed for Mexico today – catholic home to some 200,000 – 500,000 illegal abortions which occur annually across the country.

One Rule For Me, Another Rule For Thee

padlock.bmpMPs will decide this week whether or not exempt themselves from the Freedom of Information Act.

A private member’s bill introduced by self-serving scum Tory MP David Maclean will be debated for a second time on Friday, after it was ‘talked out’ last week and went to the bottom of the pile. But in what the BBC calls a ‘rare Parliamentary quirk’, the six bills above it aren’t ready, so this squalid attempt to hide their business from public scrutiny comes back.

In reality, that rare Parliamentary quirk happens to be tacit support from a corrupt government which could kill this bill at a stroke. A few honourable members of the House, led by Norman Baker, did their duty last week and will attempt to do so again. Not content with burning our ancient and inalienable freedoms, not content with equipping agents of the state with 266 pretexts on which to invade our very homes, this morally corrupt bunch now have the sheer impertinence to tell US to keep OUR noses out of THEIR taxpayer-funded business!

If anyone would like to tell David Maclean what he can really do with the crook he’s pictured with on his webpage, the parasite he can be contacted here.

At the end of a long day, if you need a good laugh, it’s always worthwhile reading the left wing press.

And here in the UK, the Guardian is always a wise choice for humorous entertainment. Then, when you add in lefty writer Naomi Wolf, you have a recipe for laughs all round. Naomi lives up to form and produces an article  called "Fascist America, in 10 Easy Steps."

Yip, Naomi reckons the USA is turning into a fascist tyranny under Bushitler! She reveals that….cough splutter…mighty Spain has adopted the right approach in dealing with Islamic terrorism, whereas that pesky Bush has only went and used 9/11 to create an artificial war and the basis for a fascist state. Added to this has been the creation of a gulag (Guantanamo Bay- the only gulag in history where the interned put on weight and had to go on Atkins), merciless control of the Media (Yip – CNN, ABC, NYT et al are so pro the  Bush administration!) and all political dissent is crushed. Hello fascist America, warns Naomi.

I think Naomi probably needs to have a lie down in a dark room so that fevered imagination can calm down, don’t you?

You know, sometimes in my more reflective moments, I sit back and look at the way some of the threads here develop, how some go careening way off topic, how some generate anger and much heat, and how some bring a bit of humour. And then I remembered this Monty Python sketch which kinda sums up ATW on a red mist day! Hope it gives you a laugh or two…..remember, never kill a customer…or a blogger!!!

Compare and contrast the value systems of two competing religions!

The Anglican Church published a set of green commandments today aimed at persuading Christians to help save the planet. They are contained in a pocket-sized booklet, entitled How many light bulbs does it take to change a Christian?Among the lifestyle changes suggested in the booklet are: organising a car-sharing scheme for travelling to and from Sunday worship, holidaying locally rather than travelling abroad and using a toaster rather than a grill. Parishioners are also urged to make their local churchyard a ‘green lung’ for the community by setting aside a ‘wild area’. Meanwhile, the Vatican’s second-highest ranking doctrinal official on Monday forcefully branded homosexual marriage an evil and denounced abortion and euthanasia as forms of “terrorism with a human face.

Now I see one Church showing moral leadership which challenges the liberal consensus and the other playing along with the easy set of pop values. Once more we see the Roman Catholic Church making a stand for Biblical values whilst the Anglican Church advocates the use of toasters.

I see that Conservative Leader David Cameron has urged people to be nice to each other. Swearing in public or being rude to shop workers should be as "unacceptable as racism", he said yesterday as he began a campaign to create a more civilised society. C’mon, this is patronising and pathetic in equal measures.

Of course we should all behave civilly towards each other, but I would rather people were honest with each other than adopt faux niceness. And furthermore, what business is it of a politician how people behave? Is this culture control Cameron is hinting at? I try not to be rude towards anyone as it does not makes things better. And of course the boorish and yobbish aspects to our culture are to be condemned, but responsibility lies with the family for how people turn out, and I cannot see how the political class will make us "nicer" Firm laws, strong families, and a Christian ethos might help in some way make for a more decent society but of course Britain has none of these any longer. What say you? Am I being too harsh on "Call Me Dave"? or is he merely playing to the media gallery with a vacuous sound bite designed to make the "Nasty Party" appear as the "Nice Party?"
