The Rt Rev Justin Welby is only 57 years old, so it looks like many more years of wrong-headed arguments like this:

The Archbishop of Canterbury has launched a stinging attack on the City, describing it as infected by “a culture of entitlement” that has left it disconnected from the rest of the country.

Speaking to the Financial Times, Archbishop Welby acknowledged that standards in the Square Mile are higher than in the past, but he said:

“In banking, in particular, and in the City of London, a culture of entitlement has affected a number of areas – not universally by any means – in which it seemed to disconnect from what people saw as reasonable in the rest of the world.”

I’d agree on the “culture of entitlement” which he mentions. We’ve seen much evidence of that. But he then gets very confused and argues for an entrenchment of that entitlement:

The Guardian newspaper is on its uppers:

On Thursday, Guardian News and Media (GNM) announced that The Guardian and its sister paper, The Observer, had lost £33m in cash terms last year after failing to staunch losses that ran to £34.4m the year before. Unaudited results for the year ending 31 March showed that GNM’s revenues, fell to £198m last year compared with £221m the year before […]

Andrew Miller, the chief executive of GNM’s parent company, Guardian Media Group (GMG), warned staff in a series of meetings this week that the group could run out of cash in three to five years if he does not make radical changes, which could include up to 175 redundancies.

This is such terrible, terrible news. Well, it’s terrible for someone but I’ve just popped another umbrella in my beer. To think that a prime HQ of the Leftist power elite, commies, Fabians, terror supporters and other riff-raff might be going down the gurgler is cheering me no end. Hey, maybe we’re not killing gaia fast for The Guardian to survive. If we bought more polluting cars the paper might be in a healthier state.

“What are you talking about Pete?” I hear you ask.

What I mean is that The Guardian, home of Goerge Monbiot and a chief promoter of all things enviroloony is subsidised with the profits from … Auto Trader. Oh the irony, oh the towering hypocrisy of routinely demonising the selfish destructiveness of driving a car while taking white can man’s shilling. Another great subsidy comes from the working man because The Guardian is the state’s choice of advertiser for thousands of economy-killing government jobs each week. Even so, it’s looking grim. It’s interesting to see that whilst more debt and spending is the Left wing solution when it’s someone else’s money, at The Guardian 300 jobs have gone already in what would be the act of an ideological maniac if he was spending the taxpayer’s money.

Progressive’s Agitprop

Update: The reward for any evidence was increased by Andrew Brietbart to $100,000!

In the video below, Jack Cashill in American Thinker deconstructs the “racist” slur that has become this week’s ubiquitous, high priority talking point in liberal media outlets throughout America.

Cleaver (D) made the accusation of a racial slur and a spit, and a reporter named william Douglas had the smear written up and posted on the McClatchy website within 90 short minutes. Shortly after, media outlets and Democrat politicians began to echo the lie across the nation.

The reported acts of racism at the Tea Party Protests do not appear to have ever happened.  Andrew Breitbart has offered a $10,000 reward for anyone coming forward with any evidence.  So far no one has come forward.

How’s That Consensus Holding Up?

By ATWadmin On January 28th, 2009 at 7:27 pm

STILL crumbling, situation deteriorating.

I do wonder; when will we pass the tipping point and be able to state that a majority of scientists disagree with the AGW theory? At this rate, that moment cannot be far off. Via Watts Up With That, EU Referendum has the summary of the latest blow to the cause (my emphasis):

First published by the Senate EPW blog prop. Jame Inhofe, this has it that James Hansen’s former NASA supervisor has declared himself a sceptic. Hansen, he says, has “embarrassed NASA” and “was never muzzled”, although he should have been.

Our current hero is retired senior NASA atmospheric scientist, Dr John S Theon. As Hansen’s former supervisor, he joins the rapidly growing ranks of international scientists abandoning the promotion of man-made global warming fears. “I appreciate the opportunity to add my name to those who disagree that global warming is man made,” Theon wrote to the Minority Office at the Environment and Public Works Committee on 15 January 2009. “I was, in effect, Hansen’s supervisor because I had to justify his funding, allocate his resources, and evaluate his results.”

“Hansen,” he says, “was never muzzled even though he violated NASA’s official agency position on climate forecasting (i.e., we did not know enough to forecast climate change or mankind’s effect on it).” He thus embarrassed NASA “by coming out with his claims of global warming in 1988 in his testimony before Congress.”

Theon is also declaring “climate models are useless.” His own belief concerning AGW is that “the models do not realistically simulate the climate system.” There are many very important “sub-grid scale processes” that the models either replicate poorly or completely omit.

“Furthermore,” he says, “some scientists have manipulated the observed data to justify their model results. In doing so, they neither explain what they have modified in the observations, nor explain how they did it.” Theon also charges that these scientists “have resisted making their work transparent so that it can be replicated independently by other scientists.”

This, he adds, “is clearly contrary to how science should be done. Thus there is no rational justification for using climate model forecasts to determine public policy.”

With Jim Hansen being al-Gore’s closest ally and the source of the data on which he relies, if there was any justice in this world, Gore would be well and truly stuffed. The “global warming” gravy train, however, has gained such a head of steam that it is going to take some stopping. But the writing is on the wall.

Oh the writing’s on the wall alright! Despite a decades-long, global propaganda campaign waged by political elites of unlimited resources, public opinion remains dubious at best. The high point of the campaign has come and gone, the future will bring evidence only that we have lived through the greatest of scientific scams.

On the day of reckoning, when the facade finally crumbles into dust and all who propped it up are left exposed for the fools and liars they undoubtedly are, every politician who ever invoked AGW to take a Pound or a Dollar from a taxpayer will – God willing – be charged with Misfeasance.

ATW Quote Of The Day

By ATWadmin On January 24th, 2009 at 5:45 pm

If you’ve ever wondered why some people seem unhinged and beyond reason:

Collectivist academics have never been pro free speech (it would not be consistent with collectivism if they were in favour of free speech) – the academic that Dr Gabb attacks was following in the tradition of Plato himself.

The function of a university (as explained by Gramsci and Marcuse) is to produce minds indoctrinated with ‘progressive’ thought – so indoctrinated that any ideas that are hostile to the cause will be rejected by them (without consideration), and reject them with great hatred.

Spare Me This Creepy Display

HOW IS an American patriot to get through tomorrow’s coronation of King Hopenchange I without puking?

While the masses gather already to acclaim the man who will make them happy, what a splendidly apt demonstration of the betrayal of the American purpose this nauseating show isturning out to be. The relationship between the American people and their representatives turns on the fulcrum of the Constitution of the United States of America. It does not merely define the powers of government, it is a libertarian statement. Vast areas of human behaviour and civil society are ruled beyond the clearly defined limits of state power.

It implies and promises the irrelevancy of politicians and state power in much of American life.

Yet just 222 years after that Constitution was adopted, Barack Obama will be presented amid the backdrop of the Capitol and receive ovations that would make a Roman Emperor blush. Since no normal person can take such affectations seriously he may as well wear purple and smirk throughout.

I’m long beyond hope of the media discovering a healthy cynicism for good reason – I lived through the Blair era. When Sky News presenters shamelessly suggest “How can you not smile at the prospect of President Obama?” as happened over the weekend, and when even supposedly reactionary rags such as the Daily Telegraph abandon any seriousness, why bother with them?

The hopelessly uncritical reception giving to Obama and resulting open fauning ought to make any sane adult squirm and despair for the future. How then can he come so far on the back of absurdly empty language if many Americans and much of the West hasn’t lost all sense of reality? Let’s not delude ourselves further that Obama is any rhetorical master; in the modern political age Churchill and JFK were such men, from Obama there are only platitudes and meaningless drivel, however confidently delivered.

Enjoy tomorrow if you can. Feast your eyes on a spectacle apparently costing north of $100million. If it makes you happy, vest your hopes for yourself in a man of limited ability who doesn’t know you exist and probably couldn’t care that you do. Wave him off to the absurd White House and ludicrous ‘Air Force One‘. Just don’t go for a stroll through the American capital city; many areas will be off limits and you’ll be fortunate to avoid some very rude and heavily-armed undesirables.

The Founding Fathers would have been sick.

Take a Fun Quiz!

Take this fun quiz! Guess which Collectivist said it!
(BTW: "Collectivist" is another word for "Progressive.")

From The People’s Cube.

“Mommy?…What’s a ‘Progressive’?”

By ATWadmin On March 3rd, 2008 at 10:03 pm

795151-936501-thumbnail.jpgA "Progressive" is the far-left face of today’s American Democrat.

Obama is a Progressive.
George Soros is a Progressive.
Howard Dean, Head of the DNC, is a Progressive.

The "progressive" looks to Big Government for solutions; progressives  seek to expand government-run social programs and curb  private "greed."  Progressives want to take decisions away from the individual and to put a "progressive" Big Government in charge.  "Progressive" is a replacement word for "liberal," minus the acrrued negative baggage of the modern-day "liberal."

Progressives linquistically like to frame their Big Government philosophy as "nurturing" or "ethically fair."  But "Progressivism" is simply a new way of saying "socialism."  History has shown  that socialism is neither "nurturing" nor "fair:"   Gulags of USSR,  prisons of Cuba, Mao’s Cultural Revolution etc.

Socialism aka "progressivism" has wrought enslavement and misery;  free markets and individual freedoms  have brought happiness and prosperity to many.   (Poster image attributable to Shepard Fairy)

SF radio personality indicted on child porn charges

Bernie Ward, a popular liberal San Francisco radio talk show host and former Catholic priest, has been indicted on federal child pornography charges, authorities said today.

Ward, 56, surrendered to federal authorities earlier today but the specifics of the allegations against him are under seal, officials said.

Ward hosts a nightly news talk program on KGO 810 AM as well as GodTalk on Sundays. He had been a priest with the Society of the Precious Blood order.

The radio station’s Web site said that he was indicted on two counts of child pornography using the Internet.

Ward’s attorney said today that the charges are based on incidents that occurred more than four years ago and were part of research for a book.

As everybody knows, Bernie, for over 20 years, has been a progressive, opposed to insensitive authority – he has been a champion of charities, nonprofits for the homeless,” said Doron Weinberg, who appeared in federal court today as Ward’s lawyer.

Well, he sure can’t complain about insensitive authority on this one.

“More than three years ago, Bernie was doing research for a book he was doing on hypocrisy in America,” Weinberg said.

As part of the research, Ward downloaded “a few images” of child pornography, and, Weinberg said, “it came to the attention of the government in late 2004.”

“They investigated and they never found any involvement in child pornography other than this period that he accessed these images,” Weinberg said. “The government knows that Bernie was doing this for an investigation he was doing for a book. But the government believes he violated the letter of the law and they have gone ahead and prosecuted him.”

The schmuck lieyer must be confused. Shouldn’t it be that his client is being persecuted? Or, does that cat come out of the bag a bit further down the road?

Weinberg stressed that “the fact that these events happened three years ago and they are just being prosecuted shows the fact that nobody believes that he is a child predator.”

“He is just being prosecuted for a mistake he made (more than) three years ago,” the lawyer said.

Federal authorities seized Ward’s computer in early 2005 and there was no evidence of child pornography or any other impropriety, Weinberg added.

“We have been trying to convince the government that his is not something they should proceed with. They said, ‘He violated the law, sorry.’ ”

A statement from KGO’s operations director said, “Ward has been a valued, long-time employee of KGO Radio. We were just recently made aware of these serious charges and are surprised and concerned by their nature.

“As the matter is currently pending in federal court, we will have no additional comment at this time.”
