The decision over in the States by the Fed to cut interest rates to almost zero looks like it may be copied by the Bank of England in the months ahead. This decision has been hailed as bold and courageous and there has been a (short-term) boost in the money markets however there is one group of people for whom it is disastrous. I am talking, of course, about SAVERS!

Remember them? Yes, they are the folks who put money aside, who do not borrow what they cannot afford, and who rely on the interest from their savings to provide income for them as they grow older so they can live independently. In a word or two, they’re screwed.

Where do the elderly now turn for the necessary interest? To the State I suppose – the all seeing State – the all powerful State. Beg Gordon Brown for extra cash and he might give you something I suppose, so long as you keep his regime in power, of course! It’s horrendous to see the fiscally responsible being crucified in order to save the reckless. What it all comes down to is that being prudent now is worth less than zero.

Perhaps the most unintentionally ironic headline of the day is found in the Daily Labourgraph and reads as follows..

“The number of teenage pregnancies rose last year, despite the government’s attempts to increase sex education and contraception awareness.”

You see the problem, right? Yes, it’s the use of that word “despite” in the headline when “because of” would have been so much more accurate. This government has been relentlessly pushing sex education since it came to power and wouldn’t you just know that the more they promote sex education, the more teenagers have sex, and the more get pregnant. Only politicians and liberals fail to get the connection. It is one definition of insanity that you keep doing the same thing yet expect a different outcome. This government’s policies on polluting the innocence of our children are just plain mad. Another condom, anyone?

It’s not just the inconvenience for passengers and the vandalism to Airport property that annoys me about the news that climate change “activists” have managed to get themselves onto the runway at Stansted airport in England but it is the absolute failure of security that most alarms! What were the police doing that they allowed this to happen under their noses? Whilst the wacko-eco’s involved in this should be punished for their vandalism, those in charge of Airport security should also be hauled in and some serious questions asked of them. Suppose instead of eco-loons these had been Jihadists?Too much complacency here.

Did you see that words associated with Christianity, the monarchy and British history have been dropped from a leading dictionary for children?

“Oxford University Press has removed words like “aisle”, “bishop”, “chapel”, “empire” and “monarch” from its Junior Dictionary and replaced them with words like “blog”, “broadband” and “celebrity”. Dozens of words related to the countryside have also been culled. The publisher claims the changes have been made to reflect the fact that Britain is a modern, multicultural, multifaith society.(Wonder if Jihad, suicide-bomber, and dhimmi are in the new version?)

But academics and head teachers said that the changes to the 10,000 word Junior Dictionary could mean that children lose touch with Britain’s heritage. “We have a certain Christian narrative which has given meaning to us over the last 2,000 years. To say it is all relative and replaceable is questionable,” said Professor Alan Smithers, the director of the centre for education and employment at Buckingham University. “The word selections are a very interesting reflection of the way childhood is going, moving away from our spiritual background and the natural world and towards the world that information technology creates for us.” An analysis of the word choices made by the dictionary lexicographers has revealed that entries from “abbey” to “willow” have been axed. Instead, words such as “MP3 player”, “voicemail” and “attachment” have taken their place.”

Such is the overt revisionism that now characterises our post-Christian society. There is a clear attempt being made to cut us off from our glorious past and this is where the missing words matter. I see no reason why a dictionary cannot contain new and old words. Do you?

I see that the star of a new production of the classic fairytale Cinderella has been denied her horse-drawn carriage because council officials say the use of Shetland ponies breaches rules on…. health and safety and animal welfare.

The stars of a new production of Cinderella which opened at the Nottingham Theatre Royal on Friday night had hoped to be joined on stage by their regular team of ponies. But officials in Nottingham have banned the use of live animals in premises they control and so Cinderella’s coach had to be brought on stage by two male members of the cast wearing horses’ heads. Nick Thomas, the chairman of Qdos, Europe’s largest pantomime producer, which runs the show, said: “The theatre is run by Nottingham City Council and they don’t like live animals in the theatre. We have ponies all over the place in other parts of the country. I personally don’t like to see Cinderella without ponies but it is just something we have to deal with.”

It’s the gargantuan stupidity of it all.

“For nearly 30 years, Michael Joseph lent a green-fingered hand to his elderly neighbours. As a regular gesture of goodwill, the retired bank manager volunteered to tend to a vigorous hedge between their properties. But when his grateful neighbours moved away, so did the mutual understanding. After Mr Joseph, 61, took care of the annual pruning last month, his new neighbour reacted less positively – by calling the police. Officers turned up at his house, leaving Mr Joseph concerned that he could face being charged with criminal damage.”

My question is did the local police have nothing better do do than to pursue SUCH an utterly pointless low priority telephone call? Surely there must be greater priorities than stressing out this good neighbour? All he did was tend to a hedge in an act of good neighbourliness! The Police, in my view, should be ashamed of themselves.

It’s not JUST in the States where the plight of the car industry is a major issue, it’s the same here in the UK and things are only going to get worse.

Vauxhall – (GM’S UK trading arm) has held secret talks with Downing Street to seek financial guarantees that could save thousands of jobs in Britain as the carmaker’s American parent teeters on the brink of collapse. The Times has learnt that the vehicle manufacturer, which employs around 5,000 workers at plants in Merseyside and Luton, approached Lord Mandelson, the Business Secretary, last week along with other carmakers, to urge the Government to give guarantees offering financial comfort to its car-part suppliers and dealerships. The move marks the first time that a company outside the banking sector has approached the Government for financial help since the credit crisis erupted 18 months ago. Follow-up meetings with Lord Mandelson’s officials are believed to have involved representatives from other car manufacturers with UK plants, including Ford and Honda, which are anxious not to be put at a competitive disadvantage.

So, what to do? Does the Government bail out Vauxhall Motors in order to save these jobs? If so, how about helping out Ford, perhaps also Honda? And then there are all those more commercially successful car companies who will suddenly find themselves competing with government-backed competition. Will they start to flag and so then qualify for State aid? And where is all this cash aid going to come from, exactly?

There is a simple truth here. If commerical companies cannot make a profit then they should be let die. New business will rise from the ashes, phoenix-like, assuming there is actual consumer demand for the goods/services produced in the first instance.  I say NO BAIL OUT for the automobile manufacturers. Doing something can be often worse than doing nothing and let nature take its’ course.

I see that a family of gypsies battling for the right to settle on an illegal camp were facing difficult questions last night over their ownership of a nearby five-bedroom home.

The McCanns are being funded by legal aid in their fight to keep two plots of land and claim an order to move them would breach their human rights. But it has emerged the name of Cathrine McCann – the family matriarch – is on the title deeds of the property, called Southview, a stone’s throw from their ‘official’ residence. To qualify for legal aid, applicants must declare they have no more than £8,000 in capital assets, although the first £100,000 of a home’s equity is exempt. According to Land Registry records, Mrs McCann, who is thought to be in her 40s, appears to have bought the £230,000 property for cash six months ago. Further investigations suggest she and her husband Gerry, 49, who drives a new £27,000 silver Mercedes C220 Sport, have owned or lived in a string of houses for the past 22 years. Homeowners near the Hovefields site in Wickford, Essex, yesterday demanded action from Basildon District Council.

How often do we find that those who scam the system are those who the system bends over backwards to accommodate? This lot should be penalised for their alleged abuse of the legal aid system.

I’m with Det Supt Andy Brennan who has described Karen Matthews, the mother of nine-year-old Shannon, who has been convicted of kidnapping her own daughter, as “pure evil.”

Matthews, 33, and her co-accused Michael Donovan, 40, were found guilty of kidnap, false imprisonment and perverting the course of justice. The pair have been warned they face “substantial” jail terms when they are sentenced at a later date. Shannon was held at Donovan’s flat in Batley Carr, West Yorkshire, for 24 days. The trial at Leeds Crown Court heard the pair kept Shannon “drugged, subdued and hidden from the public” so they could claim £50,000 in reward money.

I listened to the BBC coverage of this and they seemed more interested in “understanding” what drove Karen Matthews to  behave so atrociously to her own daughter. Simple – she is an evil woman. There is a danger that the liberal knee-jerk reaction of looking for complex reasons for such terrible behaviour obscures the fundamental truth that sometimes the reason is staring you in the face. In this case it is a moral degenerate who was quite prepared to drug and endanger her own daughter in a sordid plot with one of her many male friends.

Bypass grandfather fights off Samurai sword post office raiders

So claims the Daily Telegraph. Allow me to suggest a more … meaningful headline:

And here’s the 68 year old Alan Garrett – triple heart by-pass and all – letting two typical products of modern, liberal Britain have it with a bottle of sherry(!)

Even though these vicious scrotes were armed with swords and slashed Mr Garrett’s hand and arms repeatedly, they left empty-handed. Clearly, Mr Garrett was clearly raised in a time and country altogether different from the place which so indulgently provides an army of liberal lawyers and social workers ready to smother this pair of immoral bastards with love and ‘understanding’.

Of course, a civilised nation would ensure that Mr Garrett would be free to arm and protect himself. If that resulted in this pair lying dead on the floor of a post office, so much the better.
