and all was well at the Beeb; anywhere else, they don’t wanna’ know!

When I heard of the BBC plans for the Today Programme ‘Guest Editors’ over the holiday period, I almost knew what coming before the first programme, featuring the Beeb’s favourite M.P., Speaker John Bercow came on air; and I was not disappointed. Every pointed question was never asked, any hint of dissension from the Party line was never aired, and this creeping disgrace to civilised Government spouted his thoughts unhindered by challenge, query or even mild surprise.

But worse was, unfortunately, to follow. We were given a verbal and mental battering, by Today’s ‘guest editor’ this morning, on the true delights of Lesbian, Gay, BiSexual and Trandgender lifestyles by this strange woman; the struggles of the LBGT (or, for more unworldy readers; homosexual) movement as they grasp ‘Equality’, or ‘Diversity’ or whatever they are musing over this weekend. We heard of the struggles of allegedly confused youngsters as they entered their first unsupervised home, and how they abandoned this security because they had not been, wait for it; trained as to the function of ordinary things in a home, and went to live on the proceeds of crime on the streets. We even heard this Charity leader state that all youngsters who were still ‘confused’ about their identity should be kept in comfort by the State until their 25th birthday: and he was being serious!

When I was far younger than today, the adjective ‘gay’ was just that, an adjective. A definition, if one was sought, was to be carefree, happy, unburdened by worries or tribulation. HMS Gay Charger, a fast Motor GunBoat, was actually commanded by Nigel Lawson, a former Chancellor. Listening through the turgid unburdening of ‘how happy’ they were once they had ‘come out of the closet, and embraced their ‘gay awareness’ a common theme or opinion emerged in my mind; which, put rather simply, was that for a group of people who had now, ‘found out who they all were’, and had at last come to terms with their confused ideas of sexuality, etc., etc., and so on ‘ad infinitum’; for such a ‘Gay Group’, they came across, to this observer, as rather sad and silly.

Place your bets…..

When I worked for a Construction outfit, building and equipping a series of twelve- and fourteen-storey office blocks named Broadgate on the eastern edges of the City of London’s business district some twenty years ago, I fell into conversation with a guy who was ramrodding the fit-out for a big Swiss bank’s trading floor within one of the new buildings. He said that the expensive desks, the carpeting, the air-conditioning, the whole caboodle was to support the huge computers, served by the trading staff. The speed at which the computers would operate would be five seconds faster that their opposition, and that was the way in which they made all their profit; by being faster than the opposition’s computers and people in their decision making!

He then said something truly outrageous, which was that the various banks who were their ‘opposition’ had computers on order which would be faster and bigger than the Bank he worked for, and so the opposition would then be faster, and make more money, until a third round of newer, faster and larger computers could be developed and built to overcome the speed differential. Huge, mind-boggling sums of money were being spent so that one set of people could bet ever larger sums of money to try and outwit another set of people who were attempting to do the same to everyone else.

Fast-forward twenty odd years to the present, and it could be said that the worst dreams of Orwell have come true, without anyone even noticing. A group of mathematical analysts, helped and advised by super-computers and diabolically-clever software, are making huge sums of money all the time by betting on fractionally-small changes in the prices of literally millions of traded companies. As Private Frazer would state, ‘We’re doomed’!

Bureaucracy, whether British, European or American, triumphs!

This man worked for almost fifty years in the White House, cataloguing and filing documentation for ten Administrations. Theodoric C. James was a loyal, discreet and conscientious worker, and deserved the praise he received from Presidents such as Kennedy and Bush. But something ‘twanged’ inside his mind in his latter years, he became distant, morose, careless in his appearance and habits, and unwelcoming of attention and help.

His best friend, as well as his family, tried to get a multitude of Agencies and organisations interested in Theodoric’s problems, but all the replies came back the same, ‘We can’t intrude, and we cannot state if we did, because of ‘privacy issues’, ‘ DC Water also replied using the same words when asked if Mr. James still had running water. The classic ‘get-out-of-trouble-free’ card which was played time and time again with this troubled soul is much the same as in this Country, where action just will not be taken to help an individual, excepting of course when there is the slightest whiff of ‘Child endangerment’, when the heavy mob are wheeled out with no worry whatsoever to the agencies; not bothering about the parents of course, because they don’t count.

Theodoric’s neighbour did his best for his long-time friend, but he was found dead slumped behind his front door when the fire brigade battered the door down. He died from heat exhaustion!

On Wednesday, nine days after Mr.  James was found dead, someone from the city’s Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs affixed two $500 citations to the plywood board that the city put up to cover his front door.

One was for “Excessive vegetative growth.”

The other: “Excessive trash, debris, and unsecured vacant property. Hazard to human life.

“To the British taxpayer I say this: our aim is to spend every penny of every pound of your money wisely and well. We want to squeeze every last ounce of value from it. We owe you that.

That is incredibly good value for the taxpayer. It’s incredibly good for development and everyone wins – most especially the poor and disadvantaged people you describe.

We are currently strengthening the existing processes in place for review of our programmes annually during implementation and at completion, which will place greater emphasis on results and value for money.

Thirdly, that transparency, accountability, responsibility, fairness  and empowerment will be our watchwords.

Andrew Mitchell Sec. State Dept. for International Development.

“They have a point. Some of our money has been wasted. But that’s not an argument to stop aid. It’s an argument to change the way aid is delivered and that’s what we’re doing.”

“This is a time for the whole of Africa to meet the aspirations of its people. A time when aid, trade and democracy can come together to offer a new future for Africa.”

“We have the vaccines and the tools to do it. All that’s missing is real and sustained political will to see this effort through to the end.

Finding Excuses to Travel Abroad

By ATWadmin On September 28th, 2009 at 6:19 pm

Ecclesiastes 3 :  To everything there is a season….

I love to travel, and I love to receive visitors from abroad.  I have absolutely nothing against travel, per se.  But there really is a time and place for everything. With international headlines like these on Drudge:

Iran conducts third round of missile tests…

‘Could reach Israel’…

Russia: Iranian missile tests cause concern…

Revolutionary Guards begin war games…

Venezuela exploring uranium deposits with Russia…

China to display upgraded missiles in parade…

India raises nuclear stakes; Can make high-yield weapons…

Not to mention our troubled war in Afghanistan, domestic financial woes and high unemployment, why is Barack Obama, the President of the United States, going to Copenhagen to pitch Chicago for future Olympic games???

Seriously. What’s wrong with President Obama ???
