Here’s a really soulful song for those with grown up tastes by one of my all-time favourites. Give it a listen, you just can’t go wrong with Nick the knife…

  1. Good old Nick. I bought an album many years ago called "Repeat When Necessary" by Dave Edmunds – it was investigating the songwriters of that one album led me on to Elvis Costello, Graham Parker, Nick Lowe, Rockpile, Micky Jupp, John Hiatt and lots of others.

(By the way David there’s a good recent one from Graham Parker called "Stick to the Plan" you could stick on the jukebox for us cheese eating surrender monkey AGW evilution beret wearers πŸ™‚

  2. Frank,

Repeat when necessary was excellent – I bought it when it came out but was already a major Lowe fan.

Well look for the GP material you mention- he’s brilliant.I have been looking for "You can’t be too strong" – I’m sure you will appreciate the subject matter of the lyric.

  3. Ach David – you know full well well that the gtst pop songs are Walk on By by Dionne and The Boy with the Thorn in His Side by the Smiths. I liked this one a lot though

  4. David,

Indeed, a great science fiction song which features the inner monologue of a guitar playing fetus! Probably second only to "Halfway down the stairs" – which in the Muppets version features a philosophical frog (Kermit’s nephew). Both a more plausible occurence and probably more apt lyrics.

But Stick to the Plan is a great tune, and the latest album ("Don’t tell Columbus") is one of his best in a long time πŸ™‚
