It’s hurtful, I understand that;
The widow of murdered policeman Stephen Carroll has expressed disgust at the 14 year minimum sentence imposed on one of her husband’s killers. John Paul Wootton, who was 17 at the time of the murder, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 14 years to be served before he is considered for parole. Brendan McConville will serve a minimum of 25 years for the murder. Constable Carroll, 48, was shot dead in Craigavon in March 2009. Outside the court, his widow Kate said she was disgusted at the term imposed on Wootton, saying he had shown no remorse.
Of course both these sentences are inadequate but then again, as I recall, Mrs Carroll supports the Belfast Agreement which saw the convicted murderers of RUC officers stroll free. In the name of peace, of course. I find it hard to understand why it is OK for the IRA scum who slaughtered RUC officers to walk free from justice but the killers of PSNI officers must stay in prison for most of their lives?
