I watched "Hearts and Minds" last night and was impressed by DUP MEP Jim Allister’s performance when interviewed by the always challenging and sometimes provocative Noel Thompson. I think Jim articulated a lot of common sense and I can more or less accept the position that HE believes the DUP is holding with regard to the so-called St. Andrew’s Agreement.

Jim spoke carefully, rationally and with great intelligence.  It’s interesting to compare my reaction to Jim’s performance with that of Mick Fealty over at Slugger O’Toole, who suggests that Mr McAllister is totally out of tune with DUP current philosophy on this vexed subject.

So, what does Mick know that Jim Allister doesn’t? Is the DUP MEP a dupe, or is the Slugger editor a dope when it comes to the DUP?

One Response to “WHY I AGREE WITH THE DUP….”

  1. David,

High praise indeed. But I would point out that was the pre-match commentary. The <a href="http://sluggerotoole.com/index.php/weblog/comments/deal-will-come-when-sf-takes-provo-boot-off-short-strand/&quot; title="post match analysis">post match analysis</a> proves my listening skills are not quite as ropey as you seem to think.

I don’t have not much direct experience of Allister, but it was a cool performance. Far from being a flaky dissident, this guy was firing from the absolute dead centre of the party.

His timing for delivery of the payload seemed metronomic. Either that, or he saw the floor manager signalling Noel to wrap and without missing a beat, dropped the bomb.

Either way, I don’t quite see DUP Turkey on the post Christmas menu.

    And your own thoughts?
