In a way, you can almost admire the sheer nerve…

A prisoner jailed for masterminding a £1m-a-year international prostitution ring here has complained that a “racist” British prison has banned him from flying an Irish tricolour in his cell. Thomas Carroll was jailed for seven years at Cardiff Crown Court in 2010 after pleading guilty to running a network of 18 brothels in Northern Ireland and the Republic.

Is being Irish  “a race”?  The guy is a baboon.

  1. As a proud nationalist and republican

The Republican notions of Liberty, Equality & Fraternity obviously didn’t extend to the women he trafficked.

    Is being Irish ”a race”?

Maybe, but only in the same way that being Israeli or Jewish is.

  2. He should have used the term xenophobic rather than racist but both are simply two sides of the same coin, with one based on discrimination based on their individual origin and the other discrimination based on their ancestral origin.

  3. Sex! Prostitution! Irish nationalism! Racism! Political correctness! Criminal policy! Human Rights! Prioners rights!

This is a post to suit everyone’s bete noire 🙂

  4. The court heard at the time how Carroll, now 50, and his South African wife Shamiela Clark forced up to 70 women to work as prostitutes after they were trafficked into Ireland from Europe, South America and Nigeria.

The pair ran a ‘call centre’ from an old vicarage in Wales arranging deals with traffickers, who had told the women they would find work as hairdressers and seamstresses in Ireland.

To say he “masterminded a prostitution ring” is to put a gloss on thoroughly nasty and violent crimes against alot of innocent women.

Let him have the flag, chuck into his cell, lock the door and don’t open it for a long time.

  5. And what would the defining characteristics of this Irish “race” be? (Apart from mopery)

Perhaps you didn’t read the second part of the sentence David?

    I believe it’s called sarcasm

  6. Colm,

Just needs Ron Paul trying to illegally immigrate wearing a burka and you have the royal flush.

  7. How appropriate that the conventional ‘Red Light’ be replaced by the tricolour.

  8. Is that an indication Ernest that the sight of either is a guarantee of a good time 😉

  9. Colm,

I doubt it, – at best, more a sign of ‘irritations to come’, with the possibility of a round of clap(ping) to follow, with a fair chance – givien the Irish connection, of being literally ‘blown away’. 🙂

  10. Pehaps the N.I. Parliament 1922 – 1972 flag, (erroneously referred to as the ‘Ulster’ flag), would be more appropriate? After all, they’ve been whoring themselves to Britain for almost ninety years.
