DOJ: Social Media Posts Trashing Muslims May Violate Civil Rights

In its latest effort to protect followers of Islam in the U.S. the Obama Justice Department warns against using social media to spread information considered inflammatory against Muslims, threatening that it could constitute a violation of civil rights.

The move comes a few years after the administration became the first in history to dispatch a U.S. Attorney General to personally reassure Muslims that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is dedicated to protecting them. In the unprecedented event, Attorney General Eric Holder assured a San Francisco-based organization (Muslim Advocates) that urges members not to cooperate in federal terrorism investigations that the “us versus them” environment created by the U.S. government, law enforcement agents and fellow citizens is unacceptable and inconsistent with what America is all about.

“Muslims and Arab Americans have helped build and strengthen our nation,” Holder said after expressing that he is “grateful” to have Muslims as a partner in promoting tolerance, ensuring public safety and protecting civil rights. He also vowed to strengthen “crucial dialogue” between Muslim and Arab-American communities and law enforcement.

Evidently that was a precursor of sorts for an upcoming Tennessee event (“Public Disclosure in a Diverse Society”) that will feature the region’s top DOJ official, who serves as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee, and an FBI representative. The goal is to increase awareness and understanding that American Muslims are not the terrorists some have made them out to be in social media and other circles, according to a local newspaper report. The June 4 powwow is sponsored by the American Muslim Advisory Council of Tennessee.

The area’s top federal prosecutor, Bill Killian, will address a topic that most Americans are likely unfamiliar with, even those well versed on the Constitution; that federal civil rights laws can actually be violated by those who post inflammatory documents aimed at Muslims on social media. “This is an educational effort with civil rights laws as they play into freedom of religion and exercising freedom of religion,” Killian says in the local news story. “This is also to inform the public what federal laws are in effect and what the consequences are.”

Over the years the Obama administration has embarked on a fervent crusade to befriend Muslims by creating a variety of outreach programs at a number of key federal agencies. For instance the nation’s Homeland Security covertly met with a group of extremist Arab, Muslim and Sikh organizations to discuss national security matters and the State Department sent a controversial, anti-America Imam (Feisal Abdul Rauf) to the Middle East to foster greater understanding and outreach among Muslim majority communities.

The Obama Administration has also hired a special Homeland Security adviser (Mohamed Elibiary) who openly supports a radical Islamist theologian and renowned jihadist ideologue and a special Islam envoy that condemns U.S. prosecutions of terrorists as “politically motivated persecutions” and has close ties to radical extremist groups.

The president has even ordered the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to shift its mission from space exploration to Muslim diplomacy and the government started a special service that delivers halal meals, prepared according to Islamic law, to home-bound seniors in Detroit. Who could forget Hillary Clinton’s special order allowing the reentry of two radical Islamic academics whose terrorist ties have long banned them from the U.S.?

  1. Again one has to wonder which branch of Islam is being talked about.
We all know by now that Islam is as fractured as in years gone by the Christian Church has been.
Christianity was the stated excuse for national/ monarchial strife and ambition, which justified the killing and raping and conversion of other Christian groups.
So in this case what actual group is being cosied up to?

  2. “As a Kenyan Muslim with a long track record of Islamic and Muslim values; who can deny me the right to overturn this flimsy scrap of paper labelled ‘The constitution’?

  3. These cheery picked and hihab free images shurely warm the heart. I guess that the Islamic Republic of Iran is really just like Switzerland after all.

  4. Agit8ed –

The pictures you link to aren’t an indictment of Iran or the Persian people. They’re acts of the state.

The photographer who took these pictures to which I recently linked claims that young Iranians are desperate to get out from under the suffocating Tehran regime and are predominently pro-Western. It’s what I’ve read elsewhere too.

Yet what does the Western propaganda tell you? That Iran is full of islamic headbangers itching for the return of some mahdi bloke to kick a war of annihilation with Jews and Christians. Some people believe it. Troll clearly believes it and he assures us he speaks for millions of Americans. But it’s not true.

Iranians are normal people who we shouldn’t hate simply because propaganda tells us to hate them. It’s like communism. The Russians and other Eastern European people were never our enemy. They were the victim of their vicious regimes. Yet like Iranians, it would have been the normal people who suffered greatly if we attacked their countries while the criminal politicians were safely bunkered.

We’re supposed to believe also that the terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan were all al-Q fanatics. This is a fairytale. Most were normal men motivated by the invasions and occupations of their homelands, and this is the risk we run of attacking Iran (not that the idiots in Washington, London and Israel care for anything but their on self interests).

An attack on Iran, cheered on by the drones, could fail to achieve any objective while turning the people inward in support of the regime. It would be a disaster, and our governments are well able to achieve it.

Turn on the filters, block out the propaganda and remember to always ask yourself why the media is showing you something.

  5. Pete,
I thought that was what I said.

“Turn on the filters, block out the propaganda and remember to always ask yourself why the media is showing you something.”

    This however is surprisingly sensible….
    coming from you. 😉

  6. There is little to no support for an attack on Iran by Americans.

It is noted that those British here who would wave the pom poms for an attack on Iran will want someone else to do the fighting, and have not spoken up for an increase in the UK Defense budget.

And BTW there is a huge pro American strain in Iran, most especially among the youth there.

  7. Unlike most of you, I work with Iranians every day and they return home quite often though travel is no longer as direct. If Iran wanted to have nuclear weapons, it would have had them a long time ago by buying direct from the former-SU, by recruiting the nuclear scientists of the former-SU or by building it themselves which they are certainly capable of doing.

There is one country in the Middle east which has nuclear weapons and that country’s military even practices attacking western European capital cities – but it’s never mentioned. That country has now acquired the means of attacking the US and has even done so in the past, but that is never mentioned. So here it is again:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2003/sep/21/israelandthepalestinians.bookextracts

We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can launch them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European capitals are targets for our air force. Let me quote General Moshe Dayan: “Israel must be like a mad dog, too dangerous to bother.” I consider it all hopeless at this point. We shall have to try to prevent things from coming to that, if at all possible. Our armed forces, however, are not the thirtieth strongest in the world, but rather the second or third. We have the capability to take the world down with us. And I can assure you that that will happen before Israel goes under.’

If an Iranian general said something like that, the zios on this site would be demanding the immediate destruction of Iran. Some already are doing just that.

  8. Israel is no threat to those who aren’t a threat to it. Leave them alone. And they’ll leave you alone.

The same is not true as respects Iran.

  9. It’s a very long time since Iran invaded anyone. I suspect that we could live quite easily with it if we stopped involving ourself in the Saudi/Wahhabist campaign against Iran (which is what Iraq was, and Syria is, all about).

  10. Phantom – can you support your opinion with evidence? From what I have provided, we know that Israeli military targets European capitals (date of report – 2003) and the recent acquisition of German-built submarines means that their nuclear missiles can reach the US. The US has been targeted previously and it’s not as if there isn’t both Israeli espionage and 5th-columnists working the US military Establishment. In what way is Iran a threat to the US and Europe?

  11. Oh dear – it looks as though mass graves containing the bodies of hundreds of Palestinians murdered by jews in 1948 are being disinterred:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2334205/Mass-grave-uncovered-containing-dozens-Palestinians-killed-1948-war-founded-Israel.html#ixzz2UxZpSoZD

Researcher and historian Mahmoud Obeid, a Jaffa resident, told As-Safri newspaper: ‘We discovered six mass graves, two of which we dug up. Our estimate is that they contain around 200 bodies, with an unknown additional number in the other graves.

Around 760,000 Palestinians fled or were forced from their homes in the Israeli-Arab war of 1948.

What was it that some jew said about “a land without people for a people without a land”? The land already had people there: it has been stolen.

  12. Iran has both beautiful people and ugly people.

The ugly people are in control and are leading all the people to slaughter.

It ain’t nice, it ain’t pretty, but it’s true and it’s gonna end ugly.

  13. Troll

Yeah, but look on the bright side .. at least Iran will get a shiny new ‘Central bank’ out of it 😉

  14. And a nice new ‘national debt’, just like previously debt-free Libya.
