As I always remember, I am but a guest on David’s blog, and it is through his site ‘A Tangled Web’, that I and the other stalwarts of thought, some of similar views to mine own, and some not; disseminate our thoughts, our opinions and our ideals. As to my posts; some agree, some oppose; some even excoriate the very idea that I write on these pages at all, but I also note that they do read those posts of which they state their dislike so vehemently. As one film character said to another, in a film whose title I cannot recall, (bad memory brought on by oncoming old age), “you must be doing something right, otherwise they wouldn’t be shooting at you!” As long as David wishes, I shall continue to blow my own horn, travel in my own route, and listen to the sounds of a different drummer.

I have written of sheer, undiluted joy and happiness, of sadness and even of a great grief. But I have not allowed my posts to embarrass my host, except the once when writing around Sports and sports-minded people, when he asked if I would withdraw my post, which was, as far as I recall, something to do with the Olympics, or whatever. He was getting a great deal of heat, on something he had not authored, and I was delighted to oblige.

But, as I noted at the beginning of this small piece, I am a guest, and as such, whilst providing a link, I am in no manner bringing ATW into an argument whether another blogger should be sued for libel!

Well said Mr Cummings. Personally I find your postings well written, intelligent and thought provoking, and honest. And that’s what a good blog allows for. To have one’s views challenged or to hear a different point of view well presented is as much as one could possibly ask for.

    All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
    They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts…

    As you like it

It is a tribute to Mr Vance that he manages to juggle wildly different viewpoints, personal attacks and insults without picking up his ball and going home.

  2. Mr Cunningham (at least I got your name right) – Is this an English version of one of Troll’s ‘this is me’ posts 😉

  3. Well said Mr Cummings.

(really bad memory brought on by oncoming old age)

    Well that’s my excuse anyway.

  4. Naah.h.h., None of the accused has the same friendly smile as I, nor do I ever hold my hands as they do, as that is another sure sign of guilt, nor does my hair resemble either of those accused, as mine is both silver/white, and neatly trimmed: and besides that, I was in another city when the crime took place.

  5. DeNile?
    Another sure sign of guilt..

‘Fess up Komrade, and things will go easier for you.

    (tell him Colm)

  6. Mike – David would be hard pressed to find a replacement – how many grumpy old farts spouting half-witted 19th Century racial views with a fine sense of classical music are there around in the blogging world?

Ah the arrogance of late, balding and fattish middle age!

One of the great comforts of being “an old fart with old fashioned views” is in knowing young(er) farts and their modern viewpoints will one day
(should they not be struck down by some debilitating condition) be regarded in the same way.

  8. “Ah the arrogance of late, balding and fattish middle age!”

I guess I have that to look forward too, but it’s a long long way off yet 😉

  9. Veracity, Veracity, there’s no one like Veracity,
For he’s a fiend in feline shape, a monster of depravity.
You may meet him in a by-street, you may see him in the square—
But when a crime’s discovered, then Veracity’s not there!

  10. I think that there is a big stone that will get lifted about child abuse. Unfortunately there will be some innocent amongst the guilty who will be put through hell as well.

    Colm

I wouldn’t have thought that your veracity is in much doubt. What have you been lying about? 😉
