The horror of it. Imagine being so debased as to congratulate “the new Hitler” on his election win. It’s such a terrible thing that maybe the commies were right after all, and that Trump really is the puppet of The Demon of the Kremlin. It would explain why Trump did such a thing, wouldn’t it? Keep digging, Mueller, there’s something there for you to find. That’s all I have to say about it. A short post, I know. So I decided to decorate it with a randomly chosen screen grab from somewhere on the interwebs.

  1. Merkel is a bum, the second worst leader that Germany ever had.

    Why compare anyone with her

  2. Juncker sent a letter of congratulations to his “excellency” Putin.

I believe Macron congratulated Putin also.

  3. Reposted, just for Phantom’s benefit as he mentions “thinking conservatives” frequently:

I see that two thinking conservatives had a chat…….

President Trump called on Tuesday to congratulate President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia on his re-election, but did not raise with him the lopsided nature of his victory, Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election or Moscow’s role in a nerve agent attack on a former Russian spy and his daughter living in Britain.

    “lopsided” – decisive

    “Russia’s meddling” – show me

“nerve agent attack” – false flag

  4. Further to understanding that media outrage is contrived.

    Trump congratulating Putin = scandalous

    Obama congratulating Putin = statesman

Obama congratulates Putin for election “win”

I suppose Obama had more “flexibility”, as he told Medvedev. But why wouldn’t the media always contrive when their unthinking audience always laps it up?

  5. Obama shouldn’t have congratulated the oligarch thief KGB cutthroat, but again it is noted that Obama did that before Putin started his war of conquest against Ukraine.

  6. I never thought I would type these words, but well said Boris Johnston. I agree totally:

“Boris Johnson has likened the way President Putin is promoting the World Cup in Russia to Hitler’s notorious use of the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The foreign secretary said Labour MP Ian Austin was “completely right” to say Russia’s president wanted to “gloss over [his] brutal corrupt regime”.”

  7. Anyway, Trump is a big fan of dictators. He just loves Duterte in the Phillipines who is responsible for thousands of murders extra-judicial killings.

  8. Peter – calling anybody ‘Hitler’ is one of the steps from the war-by-numbers playbook in the NATO war-game. You do know this, surely, and you must know that a contrived war with Russia would be highly destructive.

  9. “Donald Trump loves Vladimir Putin. He openly wants to be him. He secretly wishes that he could be the president of a mob country that hosts sham elections like Putin. Like a teenage boy who’s been forbidden from hanging with the troubled boy down the street, Trump has sneaked out of the house to smoke cigarettes with Putin.

Doesn’t matter that the president of the United States is currently being investigated for his relationship with Russia; he won’t stop openly loving his man crush. During a phone call Tuesday, Trump didn’t mention Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election. He also didn’t mention Russia’s reported poisoning of a Russian former military intelligence officer and his daughter in the U.K. Nope, the president just congratulated Putin—a Russian dictator who isn’t a friend of the United States but who seems to be a personal friend of the U.S. president—for winning a sham election.

At the White House, Trump confirmed the call and said that he congratulated Putin “on the victory,” the Washington Post reports. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump added that he and Putin would meet “in the not-too-distant future.””

  10. Ooh – it’s looking like the FBI will be getting investigated for its ‘investigation’ of the phoney Russian links. Comey and McCabe have conflicting testimonies 😊

  11. It was a mistake by Trump, who is as big a fluffer for Putin as Pete Moore. And it was a mistake for Obama to have done so as well.

  12. The president of Lithuania refuses to congratulate Vlad on his “election victory”. Maybe she has higher standards than Trump?

“EU leaders have thrown their weight behind Theresa May’s stance on Russia, with several countries poised to announce expulsions of diplomats, in a bid to dismantle Vladimir Putin’s spy network. Following a summit in Brussels to discuss the response to the Salisbury nerve agent attack, EU leaders gave their full-throated backing to the prime minister by adopting a statement declaring it was “highly likely Russia is responsible” for poisoning Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia. Donald Tusk, the president of the European council, tweeted that all leaders agreed Russia’s responsibility for the attack was highly likely.

In a significant point for May, the statement goes further than a declaration by foreign ministers earlier this week, which avoided pinning the blame on Russia. British diplomats believe that a strong message of solidarity with the UK, from Russia’s closest European neighbours, will hit home with President Putin.

France, Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are understood to be considering expelling Russian diplomats, as requested by the UK government, in a coordinated strike against Moscow. The Lithuanian president, Dalia Grybauskaitė, said: “All of us, we are considering such measures.” She added that she had not congratulated Putin on his election victory.”

  13. The number of Putin’s enemies who die in mysterious circumstances in Britain continues to grow. Nothing to see here, please move along:

    “From Russia With Blood

Lavish London mansions. A hand-painted Rolls-Royce. And eight dead friends. For the British fixer Scot Young, working for Vladimir Putin’s most vocal critic meant stunning perks – but also constant danger. His gruesome death is one of 14 that US spy agencies have linked to Russia – but the UK police shut down every last case. A bombshell cache of documents today reveals the full story of a ring of death on British soil that the government has ignored.

The London square was still and cold when the body fell, dropping silently through the moonlight and landing with a thud. Impaled through the chest on the spikes of a wrought iron fence, it dangled under the streetlamps as blood spilled onto the pavement. Overhead, a fourth-floor window stood open, the lights inside burning.

The dead man was Scot Young. The one-time multimillionaire and fixer to the world’s super-rich had been telling friends, family, and the police for years that he was being targeted by a team of Russian hitmen – ever since his fortune vanished overnight in a mysterious Moscow property deal. He was the ninth in a circle of friends and business associates to die in suspicious circumstances. But when the police entered his penthouse that night, they didn’t even dust for fingerprints. They declared his death a suicide on the spot and closed the case…”

  14. The people of the Baltics were forced into the USSR against their will, They have no illusions about the Russian bear. Putin Would love to force them back into Russian control

  15. Yes Phantom, and a few hereabouts would be totally cool with that. They see Russia as the eternal victim of western “aggression”. If Putin invaded the Baltic States tomorrow they would cheer him on, just like they cheered him on when he annexed Crimea and invaded Ukraine.
