A bad week, but a good weekend. Although any Sunday is going to be a good day that starts at the Range. I haven’t been out in awhile it was nice to walk the course and tag some skeet. Home some sausage and burgers on the grill and then a nice sit in front of the tube.

Started the Sopranos, I’ve never watched the whole thing just bits and pieces. Started Se1Ep1…. and I’ll go till the end.

Here’s my song for the weekend a little late, but a good Costello song.

  1. My favourite tv series of all time. I’m currently re – watching the whole six series on HBO and on series three.

By all accounts James Galdofini was supposedly an exceptionally humble gentleman in reality and extremely generous with his time to his fans. The one thing that he reportedly couldn’t stand was people calling him Tony.

If you have a spare half hour watch this documentary of the cast members of the Sopranos in the wake of his death. The warmth and affection that they had for him is palpable.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8xVgK91Mrg

  2. Just started watching El Chapo on Netflix. It’s very good but the dubbing is quite irritating compared to the subtitles on Narcos. It’s not quite in the latter’s class (yet anyway).

  3. My son has got me watching Sherlock on Netflix. Anyone else watching it?

But the Sopranos, El Chapo, Sherlock – nothing, nothing in the world can ever be as good as Breaking Bad.

  4. It was as good as television gets, and I mean high praise by that. The Wire was it’s equal in my book if anyone is looking for another series.

  5. I watched the three series of Preacher on HBO

Without question some of the most bizzarre, surreal, insane, gratuitously violent, fun tv I’ve ever watched.

  6. actually i have praise for the president today
when he said no pre-conditions to meet Iran, that is a good thing to do
took the DUP 9 years even to sit in a room with SF
so I quite like some of this “throwing out officialdom”
Just don’t come back and say “we had a great meeting,” as bibi will freak out 😉

A great series Noel…. Watched it twice. Well worth the time.

  8. //when he said no pre-conditions to meet Iran, that is a good thing to do//

Wow, blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall see God, or Allah in the case of Rouhani.

  9. Just don’t come back and say “we had a great meeting,” as bibi will freak out

Bibi must be spaz-ing out at this very moment! I don’t know what to make of this. Trump has been very harsh with the Iranians up to this point.

    Proceed with caution Mr. President!

  10. Noel,

My son has got me watching Sherlock on Netflix. Anyone else watching it?

Do you mean Sherlock the BBC series?

But the Sopranos, El Chapo, Sherlock – nothing, nothing in the world can ever be as good as Breaking Bad.

Everyone keeps telling me how great Breaking Bad is, and how much I’d love it. I am going to have to watch that series.
So much to do and so little time, how can anybody ever say they’re bored.

  11. When he said no pre-conditions to meet Iran, that is a good thing to do

Normally that would be a commendable piece of ststesmanship however this goon is so erratic and unpredictable that God knows what he could say or do next.

I’m gonna have to give this Wire thing a go and see what all the fuss is about.

Noel, there’s a mini series on Netflix called Rebellion about the lives of three separate women in the lead up to and during the Rising. Highly, highly recommended.

  12. This seems to be Trumps motisoperendi Build up steam get ready for war and offer to talk to them.

  13. do i detect a slight hint of criticism there pat, you know patty gonna be on later and spank your hide raw ( psst .. musnt’t say that, surely you can’t be seriuous pat ) 😉
what’s the fox news line rash limbaugh ? tom/pat anyone ?

  14. President Trump today:

“I believe in meeting people – speaking to other people, especially when you’re talking about potentials of war and death and famine and lots of other things. You meet. There‘s nothing wrong with meeting…. I don’t (meet the Iranians) from strength or weakness, it’s just an appropriate thing to do. It’s good for them, good for us, good for the world. If they want to meet, I’ll meet.”

I always thought Trump is the most hippy president the US has had. Make love, not warm, while all the time a bit spaced out.

  15. He will suck up to dictators But treats the prime ministers Of major allies with contempt

    Exceptionally unusual strategy

  16. yes its odd , phantom, i think because deep down he’s more comfortable with villains, having been one all his life, birds of a feather flock together.

  17. good people are bad and bad people are good ( its les grandes deceptione ) and you heard it here first, the man of sin, the lawless one , talks like a baby, but underneath is ravenous and disrespectful and yeah it totally fits what he’s doing ( or not doing )
very troubling times, esp when this buffoon starts losing, then you get the wars Bolton will make sure of that !!

  18. Jude

Patty and I disagree all the time, but we don’t abuse each other.

  19. good people are bad and bad people are good

That was Barack Obama’s Foreign Policy….. NOT Trumps.

  20. no Pat as phantom and every right-thinking person sees:

“He will suck up to dictators But treats the prime ministers Of major allies with contempt”
that’s your hot-rod , open your eyes man

  21. yeah like sending the churchill bust back, sending an entire campaign team to israel to organize the campaign of bibi’s opposition, by giving 189 Billion dollars in various unmarked currencies to Iran to fund it’s terror network….. I could go on and on.

You two are are nutz, infested with TDS.

  22. You should never talk about numbers, you always get them way wrong.

We didn’t send any 189 billion to Iran. Not dollars, lira, wampum, anything.

We sent way less than that, and every penny of it was Iran’s own money. We had no legal or moral grounds to steal that money or to hold it any longer.

  23. sure Phantom whatever you say…. and Obama by passing the House to appropriate the money was legal also……

    You have no clue….

  24. No credible source matches your number

Trump ( Cruz killed Kennedy ) is completely not credible.

  25. Imagine if the black dictator had offered to meet Iranian govt without preconditions

Oh how the hyenas would have yipped

  26. funny things is pat thinks we’re confused don’t ya pat, not seeing the bigger picture eh?
“Donald Trump announces latest load of mad old bollocks”
    carry on

  27. Obama – supposedly – gave Iran Cash that exceeds 11 times the annual defense budget of Israel

So I guess he wanted to kill them 11 times over

Boy those Democrats they sure are wicked. Why can’t Trump just round them up and throw them all in jail for life?

  28. Phantom please don’t spew your racism…. it’s bad enough we have one person on here that spews it all the time but you constantly calling Obama a “black dictator” has to stop.

  29. First you say it was the Iranians money, then you imply the payment never happened, then you just scoff.

Barrack Obama was the greatest man made disaster to happen to this country. His unilateral retreat from the ME caused the greatest refugee problem the world has ever seen, he can go down as the greatest funder of terrorism with his plane load of cash to Iran and the worst foreign policy president in a 100yrs.

  30. It was the Iranians’ money and it was a lot less than you said it was.

And GWB / Blair destabilized the ME by destroying the firewall against Iranian power. They both deserve a medal from the Iranian government

  31. Calling Obama a “black dictator” has to stop.

Does this now mean that you’re going to stop using the Mark Levin inspired Mussolini/ Obama picture in your future ‘Obama is a bastard’ posts Pat?

    https://goo.gl/images/4AwbBg

  32. No, I looked up the photo and it explained it’s origin as seen in the link above.

  33. The Iranians were held in check as long as our troops were there. Obama pulled them out.

  34. Iraq was the strong check against Iranian power.

No amount of US troops would as good a check as an entire large nation, right there.

And Obama pulled them out in accordance with the SOFA that your guy negotiated. This has been discussed her before.

  35. and Obama didn’t have the authority to send ANY money to Iran period. He violated the law in doing so and funded Terror to the tune of 150 Billion dollars.

You praise a man that violated the Laws of our country on regular basis, changing Laws be edict, disbursing funds, using the IRS to attack political opposition, using the CIA, FBI, and DOJ to subvert an opponents campaign…

That is just a partial list of the crimes committed by Obama… please list One crime Trump has done….. you can’t. Yet you foam at the mouth like a mad dog.

  36. I have hardly praised him at all

I don’t villify him the way you guys do

He was a personally honorable guy, who I did not vote for.

And its still not 150 billion.

  37. //You praise a man that violated the Laws of our country on regular basis, changing Laws be edict, disbursing funds, using the IRS to attack political opposition,//

Well, the US constitution is shit all use if someone can break the law like that and get away with it.

Why do you guys worship such a useless piece of paper?

No, but you’ve used a black & white pencil / charcoal image print of it?

I happen to like that print. It’s tasteful. Ok I’ll use the one with Obama with a fro smoking dope instead.

  39. I would think that Bill Clinton was the first, but you never know.

It was pathetic that he lied about it. That’s something that he could have spoken honestly about I think.

  40. I’ve never used that picture…..

I happen to like that print. It’s tasteful

Good, I’m glad we got that bit of disingenuousness cleared up. Almost as disingenuous as thinking the image was tasteful as opposed to it being a Mark Levin inspired Mussolini/ Obama dictator comparison.

  41. That is just a partial list of the crimes committed by Obama

Crimes by Obama, crimes by the Clintons. Why have no charges ever been brought?

  42. Clinton always hedged his bets…. but I believe Ford admitted it.

Saturday Night Live even did a hand skit of Ford trying to roll a joint.

  43. The Obama crimes are just being investigated now and the Clinton crimes were covered up by the Obama administration and the FBI/DOJ are in the process of being prosecuted now for them.

  44. I liked that charcoal print. It captured the Black Dictator’s haughtiness and his “je suis l’Etat” attitude.

  45. If the Obama ‘crimes’ are just being investigated now how do you know they’re crimes before the outcome of the investigation? Likewise with the alleged Clinton crimes that the FBI / DOJ are allegedly being prosecuted for?

You were supposedly elected to a jude’s position, isn’t the presumption of innocence a cornerstone of the US system?

It captured the Black Dictator’s haughtiness and his “je suis l’Etat” attitude

I’m glad there’s at least one Republican who’shonest about the ‘black dictator’ image. Whatever arrogance Ob may or may not have had it’s FA compared to the clown sitiing in the seat at the minute.

  46. //The Obama crimes are just being investigated now//

But still, he was president of your country for 8 whole years, during which – as you say – he flagrantly broke the law in a whole range of ways.
What use is a constitution if it can’t prevent that? That’s one of the principal purposes of a constitution and the US constitution does not seem to be working.

I think it’s time you got rid of it and replaced it with something that actually works.

  47. If the Obama ‘crimes’ are just being investigated now how do you know they’re crimes before the outcome of the investigation? Likewise with the alleged Clinton crimes that the FBI / DOJ are allegedly being prosecuted for?

The Crimes are already known especially for Clinton, but also for Obama. The Obama/Clinton crimes weren’t prosecuted because Obama controlled the DOJ and was hardly going to bring charges against himself.

  48. Noel our system isn’t perfect, but it’s still 1000 times better than anything anywhere else.

  49. No.

I think that a British type parliamentary system is far superior.

( not an endorsement of this or any British govt, just like that approach for several reasons that I can’t get into now )

  50. The Crimes are already known especially for Clinton, but also for Obama

So, where are the charges? Surely you believing in due process should stop referring to their ‘crimes’ until guilt has been established?

Pat, I’ll make a bet with you, I’ll bet you €20 payable to whichever charity you wish that by next year absolutely no charges will have been brought against either,

  51. //Noel our system isn’t perfect, but it’s still 1000 times better than anything anywhere else.//

Patrick, I find it depressing to think that a President Obama was almost constantly breaking the laws of his own country, including in the form of treason, and yet the US Constitution was totally unable to prevent it or stop him in any way.

You’re constitution is obviously failing in its prime purpose. I honestly don’t know why you admire that document so much. It simply doesn’t work.

Such flagrant breach of the basic rules would not, could not, happen in several countries I can think of. Your constitution seems to be the least effective one around, it’s just a piece of paper for people to get sentimental about, but with no practical use when you need it.

  52. //I think that a British type parliamentary system is far superior.//

Yet there again we have the very people who most support a monarchial system and the British “constitution” constantly tell us that QE II is an arch taitor.

Also, the election system in the UK is a farce. There is only one seat in any constituency and people have won it with only a quarter of the votes cast! It’s possible for a British party to have an absolute majority in parliament after getting a fraction of the votes in the election.

  53. In 2015, the SDLP’s Alasdair McDonnell won the Westminster seat for South Belfast with just 24 % of the votes cast.

  54. If Obama wasn’t prosecuted because he controlled the DOJ then how come he has not been since Trump now controls the DOJ? It makes zero sense. Simply repeating things every day doesn’t make them true.

  55. The US election system allows for minority rule as we have now

I’d separate the election process from the govt mechanism

In the UK the losing PM leaves 10 Downing St the next day. That’s really good.

And the time between national elections is typically longer – also to me, very good.

There are 5 investigations going on right now to prosecute the crimes of Obama. I’m sure he’ll never be touched but the crooked cops of the FBI/DOJ will be.

  58. Noel things move slowly when you actually follow the rules. Time will bring justice.

  59. Pat, I’ll make a bet with you, I’ll bet you €20 payable to whichever charity you wish that by next year absolutely no charges will have been brought against either,

Charges will never be brought against Obama, but I’ll take the bet on Hillary.

  60. Only Democrat presidents commit crimes.

Republican presidents are law abiders who scrupulously follow the consitution

  61. //Noel things move slowly when you actually follow the rules. Time will bring justice.//

//There are 5 investigations going on right now to prosecute the crimes of Obama. I’m sure he’ll never be touched //

So which is it now – will time bring justice or will he never be touched?

In any case, it makes little difference. What you need is a system that can stop such gross violations of the law that Obama committed, not (possibly) prosecute him several years later after he has left office and all the damage has been done.

The US constitution evidently can’t prevent that. So it’s useless. I don’t know why you guys worship it. It was a big mistake. You should scrap it a.s.a.p. and get a proper constitution.

  62. Trump’s open buffoonery and personal hostility towards Hillary, including the ” lock her up ” chants in front of mobs, will guarantee that she is never convicted of anything.

The chief executive has acted improperly for years and has tainted any jury that can ever be convened.

  63. Phantom, I chanted “lock her up” at the Republican convention. At the time it was a bit
o’craic, but locking up political opponents is rather Stalinist, isn’t it?

  64. You could never in a million IMO imagine Reagan leading chants like that, or tolerating them in his presence.

    He led.

And leaders of democracies don’t do banana republic things like that.

  65. You’re right phantom, but the danger from real leftist mobs exists. I won’t even call them Democrat mobs, b/c true Democrats don’t act like that. I read on Fox (of course!) that the courts have said that San Jose, Ca. police can be sued by Republicans for failure to be protected from a mob after a Trump rally. I hope that applies to Portland Or. as well.

We don’t need mob violence in this country, ever.

  66. //Phantom, I chanted “lock her up” at the Republican convention. At the time it was a bit
o’craic, but locking up political opponents is rather Stalinist, isn’t it?//

I would have thought that a crowd of people chanting a slogan at a political gathering is more Nazi.

  67. Yes, we agree.

Violent political mobs, including antifa and BLM to me are criminals, at best near criminals.

Mainstream Dems have not criticized them loudly enough, as Republicans nave not criticized Trump enough ( you are a noble exceptiona )

  68. Charles

You may not have seen it when I said this a while back

I met a friend at a street fair in Brooklyn, before the election. He was hiding his MAGA hat.

I asked him to put that hat on, and said that if anyone got in his face over it they’d be dealing with the two of us.

Political violence or even confrontation to me is not on. I have loads of friends who are pro Trump and their politics has changed nothing on that.

We are a long way from the Reagan/O’Neill personal civility, but that is the standard I seek to keep in real life always.

  69. Charges will never be brought against Obama, but I’ll take the bet on Hillary

Sorry but the bet was an Obama / Clintons package.

No thet we have ageed that charges will never be brought against Obama will you desist with this ‘Obama is a criminal’ nonsense?

  70. //I asked him to put that hat on, and said that if anyone got in his face over it//

Well, don’t keep us in suspense: did anyone attack him?

  71. No, everyone was fine.

This was in a relatively conservative and not so political part of Brooklyn.

And I think that the national ” in your face confrontation ” movement, which to me is so bad for the country, was less developed then

  72. Phantom, on August 1st, 2018 at 3:48 PM Said: Edit Comment
    It is a dangerous turn.

    And it’s continuing.

No the dangerous turn is the Weaponization of the Executive Branch against political opponents and citizens along with their creation of a second set of Laws that apply only to them.

  73. in other news Let the fun begin…..

“At the president’s direction, the Department of Treasury is sanctioning Turkey’s minister of justice and minister of interior, both of whom played leading roles in the arrest and detention of Pastor Brunson,” Sanders said. “Any property or interest in property of both ministers within U.S. jurisdiction is blocked, and U.S. persons are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with them.”

  74. Charles

You may not have seen it when I said this a while back

I met a friend at a street fair in Brooklyn, before the election. He was hiding his MAGA hat.

No I didn’t see that Phantom. Interesting story. I have 2 MAGA hats from the convention that I’ve never worn. I might as well sport a Hitler mustache!

  75. Charles are you really that concerned? In Texas? Maybe I’m wrong but I wonder if you’re exaggerating it in your mind. Here in SoCal I see a pro-Trump bumper sticker or two every day while commuting, and have seen a few MAGA hats or shirts around, both in urban and suburban areas. Earlier this year his highness was in town and there were several people on corners with pro-Trump signs. I guess I could have missed it but I haven’t seen or heard of anything happening to them.

  76. Neal, It may be the old white man syndrome, and I walk with a cane. Where I live in El Paso, it’s 75 % Hispanic, and Trump is not high on their list as a patriot! I had a friend spit on for wearing his Trump shirt.

    But thanks for asking!

Phantom, latest poll Cruz 36, Beto 34!

  77. Phantom, latest poll Cruz 36, Beto 34!

Lets see what happens the day of the election.

  78. so Neal welcome back.

What’s the story with the Native Americans restarting the California breakup movement?

  79. //Here in SoCal I see a pro-Trump bumper sticker or two every day while commuting, and have seen a few MAGA hats or shirts around, both in urban and suburban areas. As I expected.

  80. Thanks Patrick. No idea about the breakup story. I would imagine that it will eventually have the same outcome with the same reasoning as the 3-state version did.

  81. Even if voters agree to split the state up, the national government would have to agree to the change, and I don’t expect that they ever would.

They don’t want to open Pandora’s box to future splits of states and changes in the composition of the US Senate and House

    Not happening
