China has detected its first case of the new coronavirus variant that is spreading fast across the UK.

It was found in a 23-year-old female student returning to China from Britain, according to a publication run by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The student was tested in Shanghai on December 14, according to the latest edition of China CDC Weekly.

Oh dear, how sad. Let’s hope she didn’t infect the plane, unleashing China 2.0 across the whole country. That would be deeply unfortunate.

  1. We shot ourselves in the foot by allowing this variant to be dubbed the ‘UK variant”. We just identified and publicised it. There is no proof it started here.

    Hi, ‘Spanish’ Flu.

It is now well known that the “Spanish Flu” of 1918-19 did not originate in Spain but almost certainly in Kansas USA. But the uncensored Spanish newspapers were the first to report on it and the name stuck. History can be cruel that way.

  4. It was noticed that those who objected to the Chinese Virus being called the Chinese Virus on the grounds of racism (whatevs about that being bad) were most enthusiastic in talking about “plague island” and the British Virus. It’s as if they are self-hating commies.

  5. Unlike Pete and Peter, I don’t wish more suffering on the vast majority of decent Chinese people. They are not to blame for their government.

That’s too easy Dave. The entire Chinese system colluded in the initial coverup of this disease. No doubt many of them acted from fear but their system was tilted to secrecy from the start. And they are still obstructing a full investigation.
