POLITICIANS REALLY HATE THE POOR

By Pete Moore On May 5th, 2021

“Minimum unit pricing of alcohol will not affect restaurants or pubs and will apply to off-licences and supermarkets only.

It will target cheap, high-alcohol products — for example, own brand drinks sold by retailers.”

 – Fine Gael

Every politician who claims that minimum prices will cut demand for a product will also claim that minimum prices for labour will not cut demand for that product.

  1. As long as it doesn’t apply to Chivas Regal, or Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

I really could not care less.

  2. This will only apply in the Republic, but be in no doubt that the puritan scolds at Stormont (all parties) will be itching to follow. There’s nothing they like better than telling us how to live our lives and they have greatly enjoyed the powers they have had to order us around since the pandemic started.

  3. I’d like to see less hard drinking, but I don’t like stuff like this by governments.

It’s a tax on poor and working class people, just like heinous, mafia friendly tobacco taxes are.

The rich don’t drink cheap beer, and they rarely smoke these days.
