Police in Northern Ireland have described as unprovoked and vicious an attack by up to 50 youngsters on four teenagers at a popular beach on Co Antrim’s north coast.

The victims were punched in the face, beaten around the head with a suspected hammer, as well as pushed into the sea at Portrush’s East Beach and held under the water.

The incident occurred when it was still light at about 7.30pm on Saturday.

  1. “Wanting to fight”

Sounds more like Irish Pikeys than it does youth paramilitaries?

Wherever there are “Irish Travellers” there will always be unrest.

    In more ways than one.

  2. Do any locals have more detail on this. Not seeing updates in the media

Is it thought to be tribal in any way or “ just “ an act of vicious criminality

  3. Unfortunately Portrush has seen an upsurge in anti-social behaviour in the past year or so, perhaps related to lockdown restrictions. This is the most serious incident so far and hopefully the problem will recede as more normal life resumes this month.
