Because Friday night is Music Night

No wonder I’m knackered. These illegal immigrants are costing us a fortune. I feel so great about working all day to feed chancers.

It’s England vs Ukraine at 8.00pm tomorrow for a place in the semis. The country will go mental one way or the other. England are the firm favourites and the better team. It will also be very England to stuff it up after dumping the Germans out. It’s always the hope that kills you, and England in a major tournament promises catastrophe at some point. Some pleasantness first then, by way of one of Diana Ross’ early solo singles. I don’t know why this isn’t played more often on the wireless. It’s a total banger and the best thing she did, in my book.

Have fun whatever you’re up to this weekend. As always, feel free to share your top sounds down below.

  1. It’s a banger alright. Thanks for your work, Ged, it’s much appreciated.

  2. God I’ve just heard this with my headphones. I don’t think I’ve done that before. It’s magnificent. Whoever arranged the music wasn;t paid enough.

  3. This is a short violin concerto by Joseph Bologne, who was dubbed the black Mozart. The whole thing lasts 24 minutes but I strongly recommend the final movement which starts at 19 minutes. It sounds very Mozart, but distinctively joyful and with a spring in its step. Bologne wrote it to perform himself. He played at the court of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, and like Mozart he died in poverty. But at least he avoided the guillotine.

  4. Cheers Patrick. You should look up Joseph Bologne, he has an interesting back story.
