North Korea is willing to talk about getting rid of its nuclear weapons but only if its own safety can be guaranteed, South Korea says.
The South says the subject was raised when its officials met with the North’s leader, Kim Jong-un, in Pyongyang on Monday, during a rare visit.
They said Mr Kim is also open to US talks, and would pause weapons testing.
How very interesting. It’s as if the neocon approach – banging the table, demanding submission, promising war – might be a touch counterproductive. Regimes marked for destruction tend to make plans to defend themselves. Libya, Iraq, Syria, Iran, North Korea et al spent vast sums on military hardware, in great part as a reaction to Western belligerence to begin with. We’d get along much better if only we’d keep our noses out of such places.
