Duke and Duchess of Cambridge react with anger and disbelief apparently, as a French mag publishes topless snaps of the Duchess.

Well, if you don’t want to be snapped topless, keep your top on, yes?

  1. “Well, if you don’t want to be snapped topless, keep your top on, yes?”

    NOOOOO!!
I frequently prance around my house sans clothing. I have ironed, vacuumed and washed dishes in the nip.
No-one wants to take and sell photos of me because I am a nobody.
(My wife checked with all the national newspapers and then threw the pix in the bin. On one hand she was disappointed that there was no chance of financial gain, on the other hand she was comforted that so many agreed with her that a nude Mr Agit8ed was NOT a pretty sight..)

A young couple like William and Kate have every right to some privacy. I don’t want to see the pictures, just as I didn’t want to see pictures of a naked Prince Harry. Not my business, and certainly not edifying!

  2. These photos should be illegal. It is a gross invasion of privacy. I do not agree with the idea that public figures have no ecpectation of privacy, to be let alone. This is wrong.

  3. The photos probably are illegal in France, where the mag is published, but the fine won’t outweigh sales. Once they’re on the web national laws are irrelevant.

To those saying that they should be illegal, on what principle?

  4. I searched for ‘Kate toppless’ in Google with safe search turned off. I’ll never get any work done today now. 🙂

Well.. as long as YOU don’t cock your leg, you’ll be okay.
She’s a lovely young woman, and personally I admire both the boys.
    They can’t win!
The British press will see to that.
As I have mentioned before, there is a sado/masochistic streak in us English, which means we love to build people up in order to cut them down to size at a later date.
Anyway, here’s a clip which I think sums up the delightfulness of Kate and all young women who are pretty, intelligent and a delight to be with……

I think that a person has the right to be let alone.

No one should be stalked, with photogs that jump out at them, or be photographed with special long view lenses when on holiday.

The principle is that a person doing no one any harm should be left alone.

  7. “No one should be stalked, with photogs that jump out at them, or be photographed with special long view lenses when on holiday.”
Do I detect a slight whiff of wistfulness there, Phantom?

  8. Phantom –

“The principle is that a person doing no one any harm should be left alone.”

But you’ve been arguing against that explicitly libertarian principle for years.

I think that people doing no harm have the right to be left alone, you think they should be watched, monitored, listened to, surveilled, filmed, recorded, badgered, prodded, hectored, kicked, ordered, shoved, taxed and taxed again by the State.

No, it’s no more wrong for a paparazzo to snap a woman with her tits out that it is for the State to pry into her life.

  9. You are not consistent.

You like surveillance when there is no valid security interest or when a private interest does it, but you oppose it when there is a valid security interest or when any government does it.

Do you realize how silly this line of thinking is?

One of the several logic boxes that you can never see out of, much less escape from.

She’s harming nobody. There is no security or other legitimate interest in interfering what is meant to be a private moment. Leave her alone.

  10. Have to agree with PM…keep yourself covered if you don’t want those body parts photographed or viewed by others. With that said, there have been a couple of ladies walking around topless in NYC lately who welcome photos and attention. I saw the older one from the back when a teenage boy (stranger to me) ran up to me and said (pointing) “Look! A naked lady!” People, mostly male, were walking past her/standing around her taking pictures on their phones and saying things like: “I have to take a picture for my wife, otherwise she won’t believe me.” She was well-dressed from the tip of her stylish hat to her boots sans a blouse/shirt. Again, I only saw her from behind. Nearby some women were making comments like: “She must be crazy”, “Maybe she has dementia”, etc. So when I came upon a group of 4 cops, I said: “Do you know there’s a topless women over there?” And they asked in unison: “Does she have a mustache?” So I went over to her and took a look, and sure enough she did. It’s actually a tattoo. I found the tat more disturbing than her boobs.
