A glimpse of the shape of things to come in this new Rasmussen poll…

“Sixty-two percent (62%) of Republicans back Israel’s decision to take military action against the Palestinians, but only half as many Democrats (31%) agree. A majority of Democrats (55%) say Israel should have tried to find a diplomatic solution first, a view shared by just 27% of Republicans. While 75% of Republicans say Israel is an ally of the United States, just 55% of Democrats agree. Seven percent (7%) of Democrats say Israel is an enemy of America, but only one percent (1%) of Republicans say the same. For 21% of Republicans, Israel is somewhere in between, and 28% of Democrats agree.”

I am afraid to see that Democrats, as in the sample whose opinons are expressed in this poll, have revealed their lack of support for the only truly democratic Nation in the entire Middle East. Change you can believe in.

  1. Interesting results, I’ll have to look into it a little more (I certainly can credit more Republican support for the present action than Democratic, but the poll seems skewed by the 7% finding Israel to be an enemy of the U.S. – I find that statistic unlikely, and I’d like to read more about the poll to see if it is accurate. Frankly, even in Democratic circles pro-israel sentiment is very strong here). But a good post for thought. I would point out that I doubt Obama’s response would be different in substance from Bush on this latest crisis.

Well the gap is significant, but not massive.

It would be intersting to see the results of a similar poll in the UK split between Labour, Tory and Lib-Dem voters.
