First, a declaration. I use Google Chrome as my default browser.  Now the news that a “reputable IQ test” (huh) says that Internet Explorer users have a lower than average IQ, according to research by Consulting firm AptiQuant.

The study gave web surfers an IQ test, then plotted their scores against the browser they used. IE surfers were found to have an average IQ lower than people using Chrome, Firefox and Safari. Users of Camino and Opera rated highest. The report has sparked anger from IE supporters, who have threatened AptiQuant with legal action.

So, where do you stand on this vital issue? Are you dumb or a genius? Take the poll (assuming you know how to!)

  1. I think I must be the first to vote. It has come up with 100% I.E (my choice) and 0% for everything else.

I guess that makes me the earliest stupid kid on the block 😉

  2. The study is twaddle. It’s plausible that the average IQ of IE users is below average as it is generally the default browser and people who never bother to change their browser may be stupider that average.

But the IQ given for Internet Explorer is 80- only around 10% of people score below 80 which is ridiculously low for an average score of people who happen to use a browser.

  3. I use Firefox mainly, with IE in reserve.
The reason I use Firefox is that when we bought a laptop with Windows7, Firefox was the only browser that seemed easy enough to use.

BTW, I HATE Windows 7 with a passion! Our other two laptops have Windows XP. I find it much more intuitive to use, and of course you have Outlook Express, which I can use to send photos with emails.
I still haven’t found out how to do this on Windows7!
IMHO Windows 7 is not an improvement on XP, it is simply (horribly) different.
In general I find that Windows7 has far too many “frilly bits”, “cool stuff”, “connect to Squitter”, “Farcebook” etc., which I never use. It’s all gimmicky rubbish, and I think it’s the worst Microsoft OS so far. XP’s the best.
Does this mean I am a thickko?
    Don’t really care.

  4. Ross,

An “internet” is having intercourse on a basketball court. It was invented by Spike lee and made into an Academy award winning film: “Doin’ it on the hoops, in the hood”, despite Al Gore’s vociferous claim he invented it.

If indeed our esteemed EX-V.P. did have something to do with it he had Whoopie Goldberg as his “ball handler”

  5. “The report has sparked anger from IE supporters, who have threatened AptiQuant with legal action.”

    Now that is stupid!

I use Opera. Na na na na-na!

  6. Ross- I can help you here. An Internet is a ‘series of tubes’.

Agit – Thanks I too have stuck with XP except for one Laptop on Vista (which I loathe). Thanks for confirming what I suspected that win7 is like Vista but worse. Bloatware!
I think I may defect to Linux in time or whatever the Evil googlian empire dreams up.

  7. Dogis,
How’s the health? Does this humidity make things worse or better?

I have heard people say that Vista is awful. I have never used it so can’t comment. Windows7 (I am told) has not had a good reception by “older, more distinguished” users, partly because it is more blatantly commercially orientated
(loads of free trial games and programmes, lots more adverts and links to ther partners/providers.
Evidently Microsoft were cautioned for being too monopolistic, and were told to let other browser providers in. So they stopped having a dedicated browser and email programme. They also decided to confuse oldies by relabelling programmes and hiding functions that were obvious in XP, to make the screen less cluttered and sreamlined.
Evidently those functions are still there, you just can’t find the bloody things; and if you do find them, you’ve forgotten why you wanted them…… 🙂
    Getting old’s a pain. Ask Ernest.. 🙂

  8. I use Firefox because it is a better browser than IE and also because it has better security features.

    Which Peter are you?
“He who must be obeyed” Moore,
    Peter T?
    I lose track….
I concur, but I can’t be bothered with all the frills and furbelows.

  10. Peter is Peter. he only posts as Peter. Pete Moore is Pete Moore. He only posts as Pete Moore. Peter T is Peter T. He only posts as Peter T.

Could it be any clearer ? 😉

  11. Yes.
    Actually it could be clearer.
    Let one stay as Peter
(but not that rude one 😉 )
and the others could have more memorable names
    like “Joe” or “Rodney”.

Colm, are your parents really Irish
or is that part of your online persona?
It’s not actually true, but it gives you an excuse to fight with everybody…. 😉
