There is a high price to be paid for having porous borders.

Booting out migrants who arrive without a visa or valid passport may be costing up to £100million a year. At least 4,000 foreigners enter the UK every 12 months despite having no right to be here. Each costs as much as £25,000 to remove – putting the potential annual bill at £100million. Officials admit however that the illegals are often allowed to stay. Many will claim asylum, or be impossible to remove because they do not have a passport and will not co-operate with investigators.

This all reduces down to a fundamental political unwillingness to enforce STRONG borders. That in turn is a consequence of our membership of the EU.

  1. ….migrants who arrive without a visa or valid passport..

How do they get on the plane? (or ship or train or whatever) I recall a case recently when 37 peruvians arrived in Aberdeen Airport from Amsterdam – no visas or anything yet they got on the plane. Needless to say, they were released at the airport and asked to return the next day to get things dealt with: two came back.

That KLM aircraft should have been impounded until all costs of processing (secured accommodation and return flights) had been dealt with.

  2. yeah good luck, this is another factor of the socialist left. Borders are nothing, Nationality means nothing, we are the world. Isn’t that the motto. Give us your money, and let us in your house because we have trashed ours.

Oh and don’t worry we’ll vote the same way we did where we came from so that we can turn the place we’ve come to into what we have left.

What absolute rubbish. Since WWII there have been six ‘socialist’ Labour governments in Britain and eight Conservative. It was a Conservative Prime Minister that brought Britain into the forerunner ‘socialist’ EU. And, those ‘socialist’ Soviet bloc countries didn’t really care much for borders did they? Try entering a Soviet bloc country from the 1950’s to the 1990’s and you’ll see just exactly what borders are.

Once more your penchant for making ridiculously ill informed sounbites demonstrates your colossal ignorance regarding international politics.

  4. Each costs as much as £25,000 to remove ..

That’s government for you. The private sector could do it for much less. Publish the details and set a bounty of, say, 10K per immigrant. They’d be rooted out in no time.

  5. Deduct the removal costs from any foreign aid given to the countries concerned.

Consider trade sanctions against countries that don’t control the flow.

Eliminate all possibility of any benefits for any illegal immigrant.

    And more.

Most solvable issue ever, if we want to.

    Paul,
Whilst accepting your point re- successive governments I agree with the Troll.
The problem is that somewhere along the line one of those governments (don’t know which one), realised that
by printing leaflets and forms for our new immigrants who didn’t speak English,
by employing translators in schools, prisons and social services,
by creating a whole industry geared up to communicating and representing the interests of people in their own language.
a GREAT MANY JOBS COULD BE CREATED!

    The benefits?
Because the jobs were in the public sector, they could be financed through taxation.
It didn’t matter that they weren’t wealth creating jobs, just that they were jobs, and the newly employed would probably show their gratitude by becoming loyal voters for whichever party created the jobs!

I think this then grew into an acceptance that our various immigrant groups were not expected to integrate, that they would live amongst us yes, have access to whatever they needed, yes, but we would accept that they would not necessarily see themselves as English, Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish, but “British” in whatever way they chose to define that.

Now before you sound off at me, I am not saying that none of them wish to integrate or aren’t fine upstanding citizens. I am not saying that none wish to serve this country in our forces or our vital services.
I AM saying that our society is slowly fragmenting because we no longer see ourselves as one nation but separate communities living on the same piece of real estate.

  7. Phantom,
    Your 12:23.
A very sensible proposal, but to be fair should only be applied to those who commit crime, terrorism, agitate against their adoptive country or refuse to serve in times of disaster or military threat.
Here’s what I mean by separate development..

Why would ANYONE want to see the institution in their adoptive country of something they supposedly fled from??

  8. Well, here I line up with the ” right ”

So long as those attactions exist, the flood can never stop.
