  1. I don’t know the answer to that question, but there actually is a Conservative Friends of Turkey organization which " counts 20 MPs, 2 peers and 3 MEPs among its founders "

This group lobbies for Turkish membership in the EU.

  2. I’m in favour of Turkish membership myself, though I’m pretty sure the Tories are officially against it.

  3. Both the EU and the UN need to be dissolved and nothing new setup to replace them.

  4. Troll

Actually many Europeans are very pro EU.

Lots of people in the UK don’t like it, but that is not indicative of the feelings of people in Ireland, France, Italy at all.

  5. Fews,

Sometime in 1998 -1999, the leader of Turkey read a poem. He was sentenced to jail for 10 months for doing so- for inciting religious hatred.

Is there any penalty for such an offense on ATW?

  6. I know there are a lot of people here also that are very pro UN, the problem with both is there are to many nations that can’t run themselves, but still want to control what others do.

Individual nations should make their own ties and allegances.

  7. I’m in favour of Turkish membership myself, though I’m pretty sure the Tories are officially against it.

Why are you in favor of it?

Interesting question. I’m sure that the answer, if any, will be more interesting.

  8. The Tories are in favour of Turkey joining the EU, as is the USA under both Bush and Obama.

But as long as Germany and France and Austria and others remain opposed, Britain’s view will count for nothing.

I’m with the Germans on this one.
