Paging through my newspaper this afternoon after lunch, I read several articles which, taken broadly together, should remind us all how badly we are served by those we place in trust and power.

The first was a ludicrous puff-piece for the moron who masquerades as the ‘International Development Secretary, Andrew Mitchell. He defends the allocation of the sum of £7 billion in ‘foreign aid’ as worthwhile because it helps keep us safe. ‘Getting girls into schools in Somalia’ contributes directly to our security, spouts this clown who moves himself with the heaviest security outside those who protect Tony Blair. He also states that we ‘should be proud of our largesse’, whilst placing that same pride on a level with the Olympics. He doesn’t set out how giving all this cash, which we have to borrow in the first place, makes us safer; we have to take this as a ‘given’, or strait from the lips of Chairman Mitchell. With India getting some £279 million last year from the UK, that country also saw fit to sign contracts for $20 billion for 150 fast jet fighter-bombers with Russia. So we are really subsidising the Indian Air Force while slashing our own forces!

Next I read of a mother who had just given birth to a son, but was discharged despite showing signs of an easily-treatable streptococcal infection because the staff were “too busy”. The infection lead to septic shock, and Lisa Kerr died four days later. But don’t worry about the new-born Jeremiah, because he caught the infection from his dying mother, and died a week later.

Then a truly heart-warming story about an elderly lady whom Cardiff Council tried to prevent going on holiday with her long-time male friend. The council decided that it was too ‘risky’ for Peggy Ross, who suffers from mild dementia, to go on a cruise with Norman Ross, who had lived with Peggy for 20 years; so the couple sued the Council. The Court decided, in one of the few decisions which any person who believes in Liberty can applaud, that Peggy could go cruising with Norman as she had been doing so for many years. The Council retaliated by stating that they always had Peggy’s best interests at heart!

A convicted rapist, held in a ‘SECURE UNIT’ on Humberside, was allowed out on day-release to watch a film, slipped away from his ‘carer’ and terrorised a young girl in the female toilets of the cinema.

A woman complained to the police that her husband had breached a court order. The policeman stated that he wasn’t able to help, and advised contact with her solicitor, and did not ask for the husbands name. The man later murdered his wife. Merseyside Police stated that ‘We are now confident that the changes that have been put in place have led to a greater understanding of non-molestation orders’. So thats all right then!

  1. Pitiful, disgraceful, dishonest, deluded, lacking talent and intellect, greedy, egotistic, lazy, indolent, each one seemingly deaf, as well as daft, – the list goes on! and I am trying to compile a list of their good points!…

  2. “The council decided that it was too ‘risky’ for Peggy Ross, who suffers from mild dementia, to go on a cruise with Norman Ross, who had lived with Peggy for 20 years; so the couple sued the Council.”

Fair play to the council. Safety is their business.

They probably figured the couple were going on an Italian Cruise Liner with a cowardly captain..
