If President Trump had done nothing else for the last four years but play golf this Executive Order would still have made his presidency worthwhile.

President Trump signed an executive order on Monday that establishes classical architecture as the preferred style for new federal buildings but stops short of banning newer designs from consideration.

The executive order, titled “Promoting Beautiful Federal Civic Architecture,” mandates that federal buildings be “beautiful” and praises the characteristics of Greco-Roman architecture; by contrast, recent modernist designs are described in the text as “ugly and inconsistent.”

What a beautiful thing.

Modernism is nothing more than war on truth and beauty. That is why generations of post-war left wing planners and architects have employed it to disfigure our townscapes so terribly. Municipal architecture in the UK is synonymous with hideous jumbles of foul concrete. Few conservatives have noticed that this matters at least as much as economics. Modernism fosters widespread social depression and other health issues.

I’m just surprised it took the president, a man noted for his architectural panache, four years to take action.

  1. During the Obama administration Trump offered to build a State Dining room for the Whitehouse for free.

He found it appalling that one was never built and that other than small diners the Whitehouse builds a Tent dining room.

    The offer was turned down.

  2. He’s been president for four years. Who turned his offer down during that time? Some invisible president?

He would never open his checkbook if he didn’t have to. All talk.

This guy has been fired. Who is he to be announcing edicts when he’s gone in weeks?

  3. If true this deserves applause. But then again, what else would you expect from a man of such understated, subtle good taste?

Trump offered to build a State Dining room for the Whitehouse for free

Yeah, because he’s such an altruistic philanthropist, isn’t he?

  4. Trump Tower is a fine building, inside and out.

It was praised when it was built.

Trump hinted that he’d host the G7;for free in Florida. Pat was fooled by that, no one else though

  5. White House Laughs Off Trump’s Proposal to Build a $100M Ballroom

White House says Donald Trump’s offer to build ballroom not seriously considered

The Obama administration has laughed off Donald Trump’s idea to put a $100 million ballroom in the White House to entertain the leaders of China and other countries.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest confirmed reports that Trump offered to build the lavish space, a proposal he characterized as “not something that was at all seriously considered.”

“I’m not sure that it would be appropriate to have a shiny gold Trump sign…on any part of the White House,” Earnest joked.

Earnest indicated it was his assumption that the offer would include a “shiny gold Trump sign” because “that’s what most of the buildings that he offers to build include.” Still, he acknowledged that it was “unclear” how Trump envisioned that the ballroom would have been marketed.

In recent days, Trump has repeated his criticism of the White House for setting up a large tent on the South Lawn for some official State dinners.

“Every time the top people come over from China…they put up a tent at the White House,” Trump said on Sunday in Sioux City, Iowa. “We’ll have a ballroom at the White House.”

Trump previously revealed his ambition to build a ballroom at the White House in an interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos in 2011.

At the time, Trump told Stephanopoulos that he pitched the idea to David Axelrod, a former senior adviser to President Obama, who said that he passed Trump’s inquiry to the White House social secretary.

Axelrod said that Trump had previously phoned to offer to take over the clean-up effort from Admiral Thad Allen following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010 — a request that was denied.

  6. I think that story shows who the arrogant were. It it certainly wasn’t Trump….

But I’m just a fool who doesn’t think he is Beelzebub…. I should just sit and shut up….

  7. I think the story shows that there was definitely a self promotion angle behind it.

Guys who embezzle charity foundations are so altruistic.

  8. He didn’t do it while in office because the Democrats would have Impeached for it saying he was profiting from it……

But I don’t have TDS so you explain it…….

  9. But I’m just a fool who doesn’t think he is Beelzebub

We know that Patrick. It’s clear that he’s your political messiah and you will follow him into the wilderness.

  10. Yes

This guy chisels from charities but was prepared to donate $100 million to the nation

    Everyone believes that

  11. the president, a man noted for his architectural panache,

Looks like Pete has started on the Christmas eggnog already 🙂

Please list for me what criteria you use to rate a Presidents Performance.

Seriously, how do you judge whether a President was good in his job? I’m very curious of yours or anyone else for that matter.

the challenge write a point by point set of whatever to rate ALL presidents. What do you judge them on.

  13. I could just about imagine the temple to persian pimp chic turnip would have vomited up on the whitehouse

  14. Please list for me what criteria you use to rate a Presidents Performance.

Seriously, how do you judge whether a President was good in his job? I’m very curious of yours or anyone else for that matter.

Well a good start might be no 300,000 unnecessary deaths a year, not turning the whitehouse into a criminal enterprise and just for shits and giggles not consorting with a cadre of criminals

  15. Please list for me what criteria you use to rate a Presidents Performance.

Ok Patrick, let’s evaluate Trump’s single term:

    1. Domestic policy – a big fail. Obamacare not repealed and the millionaires’ tax cut has sent the deficit into the stratosphere. Some worthwhile penal reforms. Let’s be generous and say 2 out of 10.

    2. Economic policy: partly successful, but the recovery was already well underway when he was sworn in. Let’s say 5 out of 10.

    3. Foreign policy: A mixed bag. His Israeli peace proposals were just that, Israeli proposals and went down badly outside Israel. Getting some gulf states to recognise Israel was a plus, cosying up to the butcher in Saudi was a minus. Cosying up to Putin and other authoritarian leaders was an endless embarassment. He has still said nothing about the Navalny poisoning. Let’s say 3 out of 10.

    4. Environmental policy: He was consistently the polluters’ friend, rolling back regulations at every opportunity and doing all in his power to promote fossil fuels. Let’s say 0 out of 10.

    5. Personal character: He was a disgrace to his office, over 25,000 documented lies in four years, childish tantrums on Twitter, childish name-calling, generally demeaning the office he held. Let’s say 0 out of 10.

    6. Race relations: He revealed himself as at best a white nationalist, at worst a cheer-leader for the far-right and the conspiracy nuts. He endorsed the nazis at Charlottesville, the Patriot Boys and even worse he endorsed Q-Anon. Let’s be generous and say 0 out of 10.

    7. The constitution: He politicised the DoJ in a way never seen, appointed unfit cronies like Betsy De Vos, profited from his office by steering business to his hotels, committed obstructions of justice during Mueller, pardoned Stone and Manafort in return for their omerta, and totally trashed the election system, making endless unsupported allegations of fraud, mounting ludicrous lawsuits and leaning on election officials and governors to break the law and give him a second term. Let’s say minus 5 out of 10.

Overall score: 2 out of 10.

  16. I forgot to mention Trump’s appalling handling of the pandemic. That would be 0 out of 10 as well.

  17. The national response to the virus was very poor.

He set a worse than bad example by rarely wearing masks himself , by usually not his followers to wear them at his events, by having indoor and outdoor events in the first place, by promoting quack cures, by passing the buck to the states.

The US performed the worst of all the advanced nations, and he more than any other individual is responsible.

He created confusion and misled people.

Covid is largely why he lost, Covid is his legacy.

His miserable, pathetic personal demeanor set a new low, one that is unlikely to be matched by any other US or foreign leader

  18. lol…. funny list. Very symptomatic of our times. I ask for a list to judge all presidents by you give me instead a list of your opinion of Trumps failures but there’s a lot to work with give me a few minutes and I’ll start composing a response to your comedy.

  19. ” The koranstitution says that the president should tweet, play golf, and tell us to go drink bleach when a deadly pandemic hits “

  20. 1. Domestic policy – a big fail. Obamacare not repealed and the millionaires’ tax cut has sent the deficit into the stratosphere. Some worthwhile penal reforms. Let’s be generous and say 2 out of 10.

Domestic Policy is the realm of Congress, it conducts the affairs of the country domestically.

    2. Economic policy: partly successful, but the recovery was already well underway when he was sworn in. Let’s say 5 out of 10.

Your view that anything was recovering under Obama’s economic leadership is delusional to say the least. A President can only effect the economy positively or negatively by executive branch manipulation of bureaucratic regulatory power. You can crush growth or free it. Obama crushed growth, increased regulation and strangled industry into collapse. Where Trump revoked regulation, freed up restricted land and stopped trying to control industry, but allowing it to grow.

Your view of economics is backward.

No administration has put more sanctions on Russia and the Putin Reqime than the Trump administration, Every member of NATO is starting to pay their weight except of course the deadbeat Germans “the most powerful economy in europe” deadbeats on their defense while paying billions to the enemy for oil. Every trade deal renegotiated reversing the flow of billions of dollars and jobs themselves.

As for Israel you are blind. The Embassy move was the signal of the shift. You and your ilk refuse to read the tea leaves. War is coming…… This point deserves a post in itself. The dynamic shift in the region can’t be brushed over in a paragraph. Your read on what has taken place over the past 4 years is laughable and I will flesh this out with you in depth at another time.

Foreign Policy IS the domain of the President this one rates in the top 5. And I’m sure our top 5 wouldn’t be the same.

    4. Environmental policy: He was consistently the polluters’ friend, rolling back regulations at every opportunity and doing all in his power to promote fossil fuels. Let’s say 0 out of 10.

10 out of 10…. it’s fake science and should be paid no nevermind.

    5. Personal character: He was a disgrace to his office, over 25,000 documented lies in four years, childish tantrums on Twitter, childish name-calling, generally demeaning the office he held. Let’s say 0 out of 10.

Cleanest man to ever hold office. They spent 5 years and spent more money than god and couldn’t pin a bad parking ticket on him. Anything else is you TDS

Highest Employment EVER in every minority category, highest receiver of the minority vote beating the record holder Nixon, Permanently funding minority universities, and greatest parole of over punished convicted minorities in history.

The DOJ was Weaponized by the Obama Administration to criminally frame and prosecute it’s political rivals….

He used the Rules of the Constitution to get elected the first time, to place 300 constitutional judges to the bench, and is using the rules of the Constitution to fight a stolen election.

You are wrong on every point Peter

  21. //Cleanest man to ever hold office//

What? You mean he didn’t embezzle millons from charities, pay off porn actresses hush money, try to ‘fuck’ his married television programme co host, defraud with his fake university etc?

Yeah I know, TDS, LMAO, I’ll pray for you etc.

The cult leader is so dreamy.

  22. I don’t think that he embezzled millions

But he surely misdirected monies a number of times.

Including penny ante fraud with Don Jrs Boy Scout dues and paying off a city fine in Mar A Lago

Very many Trump supporters admire this type of thing. They think that this is evidence of him being a sharp businessman

Why do you think that no Trump supporters here have criticized these things?

  23. //“the preferred architecture” style for new buildings should be classical.//

Fortunately this eegit wasn’t around in London when they were planning the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Westminster Cathedral, Tower Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral, etc. etc.

The city would then probably have Covid-level tourism every year.
