This was a very powerful meeting well worth watching. Fair and Honest. The best Parent comenter starts at the 20min mark.
This is better than any discussion you’ll see hosted by a news organization.

Astute point: Arm the teachers, says the President. He doesn’t blame the NRA or Guns. That reinforces the reason I voted for him….OOH RAH!
marvellous Eddie, so smart, hey in the bad schools teachers could have bazookas attacked to the whiteboard , sorta with a clip , what a delight hey ED
But why stop with the teachers? Shouldn’t the pupils have the right to defend themselves? Surely the Second Amendment applies to all?
yeah just leave them vulnerable so the next maniac can come in and kill more children… those children aren’t worth protecting….. right Jude?
yeah Peter we’ll give the kids Phasers, but they’ll be locked on stun……
did either of you two watch the video?
No…. god forbid you might see something that was done excellently and fairly… you can’t do that when you can just ridicule something that is beyond your abilities to grasp….
as I said on the other thread…. there are more lefty loons on here than rightwing ones.
no pat we don’t leave them vulnerable, you raise the bar very high, only a few can own a weapon like the one used, for everyone else 10 years min for possession
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firearms_policy_in_the_United_Kingdom
A person found to be in possession of a firearm is subject to a minimum sentence of five years’ imprisonment (if they are over 18): section 51A of the Firearms Act 1968. The definition of ‘firearm’ for the purposes of the 1968 Act is defined in section 5 – it includes possession of various types of specified pistols, shotguns and revolvers.
Use the LAW pat, you know the thing you always talking bout, the LAW
hey i watched an hour of it, its truly amazing to see a listening president
and to hear the heartfelt stories, great day for America, hope things get better for you guys.
how do you get rid of the 400 million guns already out there in the civilian population Jude ?
Who believes Trump will follow through on anything he said in the above video? Based on what he has promised and actually accomplished it would take a real sucker to think he will follow through on anything he said. It was a photo op for him, more reality TV from a huckster and nothing more.
I listened to some of this and thought it was great. I really don’t remember a president holding a meeting like this before in the White House.
NYer, The president took time to listen to average Americans. He may not be able to do much, since so much rests on Congress and the Courts, but he has that little extra knowledge to lead on the issue. Trump might surprise us.
pat, amnesty, rewards, honour things like that + legal instruments
we’re not talking about pistols , estimations there are 8 million ArmaLite 15’s out there.
But we’re ducking it, the killer bought it legally, that has to change . so obvious yes ?
Porn apparently is considered dangerous for your health by US lawmakers but not guns !
An exercise in cosmetics I suspect Charles:
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/feb/21/donald-trump-solution-to-school-shootings-arm-teachers-with-guns
Absolutley friggin’ loopy mooncattery. What about arming the students, dinner ladies & janitors also? Bad situation? whay not even add more guns to the equation?
You don’t get rid of them all Pat.
You legislate to make anything but small cal revolvers for home and personal protection illegal for the average Joe to possess and then implement an amnesty for the other stuff, financially reimbursing every weapon handed in. You have this amnesty in place for a year or so and those found in possession of illegal gear after the cut off time face confiscation along with a hefty fine of say $10,000 and / or a custodial sentence.
Trump is presently being forced by circumstances to make promises he knows he won’t keep.
Arm the teachers
Because there’s no possibility that the teachers will shoot Any innocent people
Some of these ideas are so completely stupid it’s impossible to believe that anyone is seriously proposing them
I’d have a hard time believing that anyone who proposes such a thing has had any experience with actual teachers in elementary school high school, or college
A good number of them I wouldn’t trust with any sort of weapon
Such an idea would make schools much more dangerous, not any less dangerous
In all fairness there were a few teachers at my school who had guns but that wasn’t really the same thing.
And the school bus drivers, the coaches, the movie theater operators, the playgrounds, the ball fields, the candy stores, the toy stores….one big OK Corral.
Arming the teachers is the dumbest idea proposed on this site in all the years of its existence, and that’s saying something
This is like the various proposals of Pete Moore and Ron Paul; things never widely used in any advanced country , Pie in the sky proposals made without the slightest knowledge of how things work in the real world
You don’t arm the teachers. Have you met these people? The majority of teachers are friggin basket cases…. maybe it’s from dealing with children all day.
So when you go to the Court House is the Judge the one providing Security? When you go to a State House or Federal building is it the secretaries or the Elected officials providing Security?
Some of the things on this thread are ridiculous, but then it’s the usual ATW nonsense.
You put a Fence and a gate around the school parking lot, you make all the doors in the building only able to open from the inside with an alarm that sounds when you do, and all people enter through the front door where there is an armed guard and a metal detector….
Wallah problem solved….. but please continue with this amusing silliness.
The so-called president has spoken about arming the teachers
I am glad that you agree that this idea is completely idiotic
This proposal would make schools much more dangerous, rather than any less dangerous
Alternatively you could ban the sale of semi automatic ‘assault style’ ‘long barreled’ weapons to the public and take away the tool of choice for mass murder?
It doesn’t have to be you do this OR you do that as if you can only do one or the other. There is a sound argument for improving school security sadly but necessarily but it can go hand in hand with a sensible modern sane policy of incrementally reducing the types of weapons and amounts of guns and ease of purchase policies that is currently the situation in the USA.
only 14% of mass shootings have taken place with these weapons, by far the majority is handguns.
Stats please Pat?
This interactive waepons graph would seem to disagree:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2018/national/mass-shootings-in-america/?utm_term=.32405a43b52a
excuse me 24%
hand guns twice the amount…..
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/crime-study-handguns-not-assault-rifles-used-in-most-mass-shootings/article/2542118
Well, the Wapo graph would seem to disagree.
It also seems like the scope of the study you link to is limited:
Mass Shootings in America: Moving Beyond Newtown (PDF Download Available). Available from: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/270480045_Mass_Shootings_in_America_Moving_Beyond_Newtown [accessed Feb 22 2018].
Certainly the latest mass murders have all occurred using such weapons.
Yes pat is being all coy today he knows as well as many the AR-15 is by far the most popular weapon people are buying today. It’s got that mass shooters appeal surprised NRA ndon’t Do an advert. School pissing you off lost interest the AR-15 is your friend or some such sick yuk advert. Jesus come back soon .

Here’s an interesting comment:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/06/14/virginia-shooting-ar-15-rifle-has-long-bloody-history-america/
ahh paul maybe that’s why Pat’s posted link included 2013.
you trying to fool us Mr, Patrick or you genuinely didn’t know about 2013-2018 stats?
mybe you don’t own a gun or know much about them in which case you made an easy mistake
which is it Pat ?
ah excuse me it’s you and the biased WAPO that are cherry picking numbers and years the article I linked to was about an reputable independent study.
Not just years and stats to back up an agenda.
Pat is right, hand guns are used in more mass shootings. They are used because they are more easily concealed. AR’s have only started being used in the last few years probably because of all the panic buying that occurred under the Obama administration because the black dictator was going to confiscate them all.
By the way the gun industry is in a lot of financial trouble because they overbuilt the supply in the Obama years and now demand has cratered because the black dictator is no longer president
As for what to do with the 400 million guns that exist, institute a national licensing plan with a 3 year phase in. it would disqualify criminals and people with mental health issues and after 3 years if you are in possession of a gun with out a PAL(possession and acquisition) license then you are breaking the law and subject to confiscation and destruction. In that way the number of guns on the streets is slowly but inexorably decreased, legal gun owners are protected and the police have clear cut rules about gun possession. And for the paranoid black helicopter types it wouldn’t require them to register their guns.
It would even go a long way to disarming the black population, something the NRA has been in favour of since its inception
No Pat, the scope of your article is flawed as it is from five years ago. From the USA Today link above one can see that there five mass shootings with an ‘assault style’ weapon from 1984 to 2013 while there were nine from 2013 until the present.
Your stats are delusive because they are five years out of date. Respectfully, if anyone is cherry picking it’s you.
And mass shootings are only one component of a US gun death and injury problem
I miss the black dictator
He’s looking pretty good at the present time
We’ve been talking about banning assault weapons and now it’s moving down to handguns, exactly what the NRA and gun owners are afraid of, i.e the slippery slope.
Jude I’ve sold guns for a living, have you?
The AR style guns appeal to a certain buyer and it’s a small group.
Who wants to ban handguns?
There is no significant support for any such move
Did you sell assault weapons?
Such as AR 15s?
The Obama Administration had the highest rate of mass shootings and especially school shooting out of any US President.
Phantom misses more kids dying…..
Yes Phantom I sold AR-15s
Paul the #1 weapon for mass shootings is handguns.
You guys also seem to forget these guns were banned for years and during that time the rate of shootings, mass shootings and every other type of crime didn’t drop at all.
If they stopped making these guns tomorrow it wouldn’t save a single life.
there you go pat, do you submit or have you more to correct us with ?
Yes Pat, the Act expired in 2004 and your linked report deals with attacks prior and post Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act expiration until 2013 when the report was completed. Largely inconsequential in the present context.
There have been an almost 200% increase in mass shooting with ‘assault style weapons’ since the report you link to was completed. That, along with the Wapo interactive graph, shows that your stats are fundamentally flawed.
Can any of those here who oppose gun ownership restrictions give a reasonable explanation as to why civilians should be allowed to purchase and keep at home semi automatic or “assault style” rapid release guns. They cannot be considered essential for personal defence reasons so what would be unjust about restricting their ownership ?
The question I continuously ask Colm. Who would / could oppose sensible control?
Pete answers on another thread:
Paul
Yes I saw that comment. A diversion from actually giving a rational answer. A really childish response. Treating everything not on its merits but as if it might mean conceding a point to “the enemy”
Patrick Van Roy,
So after tuning all schools, nurseries and kindergarten’s into prison like fortresses, the shooters just switch attack to softer targets children frequent, like cinemas full of kids, or swimming pools full of kids, or school busses, etc.
Problem far from solved.
no Dave it’s not that complicated, throw the guns over the fence, go through metal detector at gate, retrieve guns and kill with impunity.
America fuck yeah!
Emerald Pimpernel
Absolutely mate. One of many ways this ‘solution’ to school shootings can be easily circumvented.
The biggest lie that was ever told
“ I’m from the gun lobby, and I’m here to help “
