Well, no big surpise to read that Israel has drawn fire regarding its human rights record today at a United Nations forum where its neighbours accused it of committing systematic violations against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

Delegations from Syria, Egypt and Iran raised concerns about Israel’s security wall, its detentions of young Palestinians, and what they called “illegal” Jewish settlements during the regular review by the UN Human Rights Council. Western countries, including Australia, Britain, Canada, France and Germany, urged Israel to lift its blockade on the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip which they said had led to a worsening humanitarian situation.

Just one thing. Any condemnation from these UN sages concerning the Palestinians savages in Hamas, maybe even a polite murmur of some concern at their barbarism? Nope.

The  UN – modern loathsome day Jew-hating Nazis.

    Well actually, Yep!
And in fact they go a bit further than the mere "condemnation" you seem to want. The three EU countries you mention have 1) declared both Hamas and its political wing illegal and a terrorist organisation, 2) frozen all its assets in Europe, 3) banned all its members from entering.

But of course they also criticise Israel’s actions in the territories it occupies so all that embarrasing stuff is forgotten!

  2. David could you please point out whatever anti-semitic references the UN may have made which allows you to say this….

"The UN – modern loathsome day Jew-hating Nazis."

  3. Noel Cunningham –

What big boys Britain, France and Germany must be. How brave they are to describe Hamas as terrorists, freeze their assets and bar them from Europe. And how even-handed to get a dig in at Israel also!

Some would quibble however and point out that this is cheap, that these countries don’t border the Hamas fiefdom and see their people targeted daily by a hail of rockets.

I say instead they are big and brave.

What, even cheaper than the "condemnation" David is looking for?

"Jewish villages were built in the place of Arab villages. You do not even know the names of these Arab villages, and I do not blame you because geography books no longer exist. Not only do the books not exist, the Arab villages are not there either. Nahlal arose in the place of Mahlul; Kibbutz Gvat in the place of Jibta; Kibbutz Sarid in the place of Huneifis; and Kefar Yehushua in the place of Tal al-Shuman. There is not a single place built in this country that did not have a former Arab population."

    — David Ben Gurion, quoted in The Jewish Paradox, by Nahum Goldmann, Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 1978, p. 99.

"When we say that the Arabs are the aggressors and we defend ourselves —- that is only half the truth. As regards our security and life we defend ourselves. . . . But the fighting is only one aspect of the conflict, which is in its essence a political one. And politically we are the aggressors and they defend themselves."
    Ben-Gurion

As the zionists were well aware of what they were doing, its a bit rich to complain against the Palestinians for reacting.

  6. RS – You seem to have silenced the room.

Mentioning Benny Morris (the arch-Zionist and historian) and some of this quotes re 1948 also results in silence around these parts. I wonder why…

  7. Well then RS and Petr: you seem to have a solution in mind to the existential problem of Israel. Care to share it with us?
