Sometimes you read a headline that makes you do a double take. This is such a one…

When you think of the Clintons, does the word “honesty” come to mind? It does to new MSNBC host Ronan Farrow who actually said on Tuesday’s The Cycle (readers are strongly advised not to have any food or fluid in their mouths before continuing reading), “They represent a style of honesty that the public craves right now”

  1. But – when compared to our current batch of ‘Leaders’ they not only seem to be more honest, but most certainly are more honest, and that is starting from the very low levels of honesty that the Clinton era established.

  2. At least Clinton’s lies didn’t lead to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, like your man’s lies did, David.

  3. honesty and politician never belong in the same room let alone as a description of any pollitician (my apologize to our host).

what this story and the current batch of stories running in the press shows is how truly out of touch with reality both the press and the Washington Elite are.

No thinks the Clintons are honest, and now is not the times for Amnesty.

Have you noticed the push…. Healthcare’s fixed now lets fix immigration, and they’ll do it the same way with the same results.

How did it ever come to this point in time when we are saying “At least my liar is not as bad as your liar”

Do we not deserve so much more, or do we really get what we vote for.

  5. Oh for the “fair and balanced” Fox. We know they’re not even a teensy-weensy bit biased, don’t we?

  6. Noel

Both Clintons ( and very many other world leaders and intel agencies ) supported the theory that Iraq had WMD

Both Clintons supported the Iraq War before they were against it.

  7. //Both Clintons supported the Iraq War//

Strange then that he didn’t start it when he was president. He had more time and as much opportunity as Bush.

Clinton didn’t pretend he knew something while being aware that he did not know it. He didn’t tell lies to start a war.

  8. Clinton was part of the intellectual foundation for that war, for good or evil, with the many comments about Iraqi weapons.

He had access to the same intel as GWB and he said very similar things about it.

And if 9/11 had happened under Clinton’s watch, we don’t know what he would have done as reaction to it.

  9. Why are you protecting/defending a liar, Noel? Clinton lied to our faces on national television. It is a well-known, proven fact. Deal with it.

Obama also lied to our faces on national television – Benghazi, Fast and Furious, the IRS investigations, the NASA spying, and now we find out that he lied and continues to lie repeatedly to our faces about ObamaCare.

The media now covers for Obama’s lies just as they created the fiction that Bush “lied” about WMD despite the international and national consensus that Iraq had WMD. Deal with it.

  10. There is no evidence that leads us to the conclusion that either Clinton or GWB lied on Iraq.

The invasion may or may not have been wrong – only time will tell, if it does – but those guys spoke the truth as they knew it, as did Blair.

Everyone thinks that they see the truth now, after the event, but decision makers don’t have the benefit of this hindsight.

  11. //There is no evidence that … GWB lied on Iraq.//

//they created the fiction that Bush “lied” about WMD despite the international and national consensus that Iraq had WMD.//

If there was an “international Consensus” about WMD – and there wasn’t – most of it was based on statements by the US Administration, which a lot of people thought they could trust.

Bush and his administration lied a lot about Iraq prior to starting their war. They claimed that Saddam had partnered with AQ, and had provided it with weapons training. Both were false claims, and the Adm. knew that they had no grounds for believing they were true. i.e. they were telling lies.

They also claimed that Saddam was prepared to arm terrorists for attacking the US. Again, they knew that they had no evidence to support such a claim. In fact, the available intelligence suggested the contrary. Another lie.

They presented as fact statements about Iraq’s production of WMD at a time when intel was telling them they were uncertain about any such production. Lie # 3.

Then there were all those silly claims about underground WMD bunkers and M. Atta meeting Iraqi officials in Prague, which originated only in the imagination of the Bush adm. and its need to convince the people to support a war.

In general, and as I said before, they said they knew things which we now know they could not have known at the time (in most cases because they were not true).

All of the above come from the official report on the matter prepared by the US Senate Intelligence Committee, which summed up by saying “In making the case for war, the Administration repeatedly presented intelligence as fact when in reality it was unsubstantiated, contradicted, or even non-existent.”
    and the committee chairman added
“To accomplish this, top Administration officials made repeated statements that falsely linked Iraq and al Qa’ida as a single threat and insinuated that Iraq played a role in 9/11. Sadly, the Bush Administration led the nation into war under false pretenses” (my emphasis)

They lied, and Phantom and Patty etc believed them and continue to believe them even though their lies have been proven by their own government. Those lies led directly to a long and terrible war, that has so far taken the lives of about 100,000 people.

But of course that’s all trivia compared to saying you did not have sex with a woman.

  12. Ronan Farrow (A child of Mia Farrow of whom the best that can be said is that he didn’t also marry Woody Allen), is part of an opinion show, and not by any stretch a reporter.

He might have had the decency to mention he worked for Hillary Clinton when he was praising the alleged veracity of his former boss.

Bill and Hillary Clinton both have their positives, but honesty is not a term I would associate very deeply with either of them.

For the record, both Clintons supported the invasion of Iraq as I recall, Hillary even voting to authorize it (and clinging to that vote as the proper thing to have done well after). I don’t offer that memory to say she was wrong or right, but to note that she most surely did.

  13. Noel Cunningham –

At least Clinton’s lies didn’t lead to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, like your man’s lies did, David.

Well, in a sense they did.

Bill the Rapist signed the Iraq Liberation Act into law. It made regime change in Baghdad the official foreign policy of the federal government, which GWB implemented (I’ve been telling Republicans that they supported a Progressive, Left Wing, interventionist war in Iraq).

Bill and Hilary H. Antichrist also spoke long and loud in defence of that war and occupation, in which they led a vast chunk of the Dem establishment.

GWB was in the presidential compound, but it was truly a bipartisan effort and the Clintons did their bit to make it happen.

  14. Bill the Mourner ordered the destruction of Serbia and fired missiles into apsirin factories in Sudan. Here’s Bill, mourning(?) the death of Commerce Secretary Ron Brown who died in a strange plane crash in Bosnia:

Watch this and weep – tears of laughter at the most phony President in American history. Democrat Bob Kerrey said, “Clinton’s an unusually good liar. Unusually good.”

  15. Watch this and weep – tears of laughter at the most phony President in American history. Democrat Bob Kerrey said, “Clinton’s an unusually good liar. Unusually good.”

Clintons wife is also a pathological liar, just not as good at it ..

Clinton under fireUS elections 2008: Hillary’s claim that she braved snipers in Bosnia has been exposed as fraudulent, and the media backlash has begun

    http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2008/mar/25/clintonunderfire

We call it outragous lying, she calls it ‘ Misspeaking’

Hillary Clinton has admitted that she “did misspeak” about landing in Bosnia … Hillary Clinton admits ‘misspeaking’ over Bosnian sniper claims.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/1582795/Hillary-Clintons-Bosnia-sniper-story-exposed.html

  16. Note that ‘banging the boss’ in the law firm wasn’t just confined to Hillary. Her nearest equivalent in the UK, Cherie Blair, produced Euan Blair with Derry Irvine. These are despicable people, and they are the puppets used by the ruling class.

  17. //It’s not a debatable point.//

? The only people debating it are those claiming it.

  18. The ” debate ” is that the Dems will crucify GWB for Iraq endlessly, without mentioning their own general support for the entire affair at the time.

Obama was an exception, but I take that as pure luck on his part, like someone buying a lottery ticket.

There wasn’t much opposition to that war when it began from any of the major figures.

  19. That is a very intelligent statement.

It applies to some opposition to Afghanistan also.

I confronted some lefty anti Afghanistan demonstrators in Union Square. Four days after 9/11, they were demonstrating for ” Hands off the Taliban ” and some such, with the usual slogans.

I still have some of their brochures.

Whatever the wisdom of what we did do, these guys wanted us to do nothing at all.

  20. //There wasn’t much opposition to that war when it began from any of the major figures.//

Still, the world will remember the Clintons, inter alia, for ending two wars and will remember Bush for starting two, neither of which has come to an end yet.

Speculating about what Clinton would have done if President in 2001/2003 is as vain as asking how Lincoln would have tackled the Nazis. Starting a war is one of the most serious things any government can do, and starting one on the basis of deliberate lies is a moral crime of the first magnitude – and that was Bush’s show, not Clinton’s.

  21. Neither was done on the basis of any lies by GWB in my opinion.

Any US president would have taken the action in Afghanistan, including Obama, who said so many times.

Criticize Bush for his actions but that comment is all too trendy and all too unfair.

  22. Candidate Barack Obama states that the war in Afghanistan is “not a war of choice. This is a war of necessity…If left unchecked, the Taliban insurgency will mean an even larger safe haven from which Al Qaida would plot to kill more Americans. So this is not only a war worth fighting; this is fundamental to the defense of our people.” (8/17/2009

He’s not wrong all the time.

  23. //Neither was done on the basis of any lies by GWB in my opinion.//

So you don’t accept the findings of the Senat Intelligence Committee that investigated the matter? That was a bi-partisan committee, most of whose members I presume also supported the war. Do you really think you are more informed and objective than they?

//Barack Obama states that the war in Afghanistan is “not a war of choice//

I hope you don’t think that’s in any way relevant to what we’re talking about.

  24. Have to sign off here.
The crap has really hit the fan over here with the continuing NSA story. Will be interesting to see what comes out of the current visit by the EU delgation to DC. In the end, all that snooping of non-criminals will probably have damaged the US more than it could ever have benefitted it.

    Goodnight all.
