You should go here and watch a video of those peace loving Flotilla folks and their supporters chanting Intifada songs and calling for martyrdom. Give it a for minutes to load.  Israel should be congratulated for granting them their wish.

  1. Pete, do you believe people at sea have a right to bear weapons and resist an armed attack on their boat?

  2. Pete, do you believe people at sea have a right to bear weapons and resist an armed attack on their boat?

Or is that only for Englishmen?

  3. Noel Cunningham –

Ask me that on the appropriate thread. If it doesn’t yet exist it will do because I have a few things to say about this.

While you’re here, isn’t it rather incongruous that apparent peace campaigners invoke the memory – and issue as a threat – the slaughter of Jews?

Really, I would like to know what you think of this.

I don’t know if they were peace campaigners; they were bringing aid to the people of Gaza. Anyone who remains a peace campaigner while his head is getting kicked in is a fool. They had every right – but unfortuantely not the weapons – to defend themselves.

About that quote. If they really said/sang that (who takes the statements of Israeli officialdom at face value?), and it really means more than a slogan (don’t folk also chant "scatter her enemies" and "May an impure blood / Water our furrows" on other solemn occasions?), it was quite tasteless to say the least, although in view of the slow strangulation of their people certainly inevitable that some hotheads went over the top.

But if you think blood-thirsty songs sung in deliberate provocation justify firing con gusto, the IRA around the Garvaghy Road could really do with your services.

  5. It was the usual coalition of self-described peace campaigners and some pretty hardcore islamists. The "peace" tag is one they apply to themselves.

No, I haven’t said this chanting justifies what the Israeli actions. The chanting stands on its own and is a quite revealing insight. What’s clear is that those who ally themselves with these people – whatever the Israeli actions – ally themselves with some pretty scummy people.

  6. >>ally themselves with some pretty scummy people.<<

Of course there are scummy people aplenty in Hamas and its offshoots, as there were in Stalin’s SU.

It is nevertheless right to hold your nose and ally yourself with them to confront a greater evil – and the one who continues occupation and abuse of an impoverished people, steals their land, treats them as 2nd class citizens in their own country and kills them by the hundreds is definitely – at the moment at least .- the most evil party in the dispute.

  7. I see this has been a convenient get-out of a White House trip that Netanyahu would hardly have been relishing.

Never mind, maybe he’ll have more time to pay tribute to and honour King David Hotel bombers instead ….

  8. "Israel should be congratulated for granting them their wish."

    Roger that David

    72 virgins x 10 = 720 virgins.

Heck, that’s a pretty big flock of sheep.
