I have posted before on the appalling decision by Trafford Housing Trust to demote and punish Adrian Smith for the comments he made on his own Facebook page, visible only to authorised friends.

This man, who had worked for the Trafford Council and then for the Trust for 35 years, and had given 100% to his job, was warned, demoted and fined because he wrote what was on his mind in regard to the idea of Gay Marriage.

He did not say, as I do, that perverts should not be given any special treatment whatsoever similar to those of ordinary people. He did not preach that, as sinners, they should be cast into the darkness. He simply stated that he believed that the whole idea of ‘gay marriage’ was ‘an equality too far’!

So, has he committed the high crime of ‘homophobia’? Has he given ‘offence’ to anyone? I reckon that the Trust should not only be made to reinstate this man to his previous position and pay, they should also pay him exemplary damages, mainly for being a set of uptight twerps with absolutely no idea of industrial relations; or sexual relations for that matter!

  1. Mike I have emailed Trafford Housing trust to seek clarification. If I get a response i will post it here.

  2. The ongoing collapse of speech rights in its birthplace should be seen as one of the major stories in the world.

This will spread to other lands.

  3. Mike,

“perverts [Gays] should not be given any special treatment whatsoever similar to those of ordinary people. He did not preach that, as sinners, they should be cast into the darkness.”

Nice. Torquemada and Calvin would have been proud to be your friend. Mind you, the mullahs of Iran would give you a warm khosh amadid as well.

Thank you for reminding me why I usually ignore your rants posts—as I ignore all chaps who employ the exclamation mark as a substitute for reasoned contention.

  4. Phantom,

If true, the Trust’s conduct is inexcusable. There are better ways of combating blind bigotry and intolerance.

  5. “There are better ways of combating blind bigotry and intolerance.”

Such as adverts on the sides of buses down here in the South, which says something closely akin, to and in foot high letters, – “There are gays among us – get used to it! – Stonewall.”

Now is that such a good tactic for winning friends and influencing people?

From various comments I have heard about the ads, it seems they have done their cause more harm than good.

  6. I did receive a response from Trafford Housing Truss Trust, but it doesn’t say much…

    “Thank you for your enquiry.

This matter is subject to legal process and accordingly the Trust can not make any comment at this time

    Kind Regards

    Trafford Housing Trust”

As Phantom says we in the UK don’t have freedom of speech any more. It is all has to pass through these filters..

Does it go against the policies of INCLUSION, DIVERSITY, EQUALITY?
Could it be construed as a HATE crime?
Might it INCITE to RACIAL DISCRIMINATION, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, RELIGIOUS DISCRIMINATION (except Christians, who no longer count anyway..)

Anyway, I sent a message of support to the man concerned through FaceBook, and I WILL be contacting Trafford Housing again, on the basis that if this man wants to keep his job he must give up his right to free speech.
If you look at the tactics being employed by Stonewall especially, you will see how Britain is being changed by coercion and intimidation.

  7. …perverts should not be given any special treatment whatsoever similar to those of ordinary people.

If some of your grandchildren turn out to be gay will you demonise them as ‘perverts’ too?

  8. Interesting comments from a gay Tory MP (think he is an MP), who has not dissimilar views to the guy in question, although pretty dissimilar to Mike’s.

Pretty pathetic response from the Hosing Trust.

Don’t know that I can quite get my head round comments about perverts in the wake of the revelations of the activities of Jimmy Savile. Although of course most of that was fine old upstanding hetrosexual child abuse and rape.

  9. Ernest,

“From various comments I have heard about the ads, it seems they have done their cause more harm than good.”

No kidding? What would your various commenters say about this?

  10. Free speech? The entire ‘social network’ has been established specifically to catch people whose views might be ‘unacceptable’. After all, facebook was funded by the CIA’s venture capital arm:

Now check the terms of service at 0.45 onwards. Comments on facebook are NOT and never have been private.

  11. Interesting McTatters,
I don’t like FaceBook. I do have an account but when I realised how it was working I tried to close it. It is incredibly difficult to do! I figured that it could easily be used for advertising purposes and for keeping tabs on people, so yes, I can see that what you are saying may well be true.
